What Being Special Does Not Mean

Something Lost In Today's World

I have noticed something interesting in today's world...

So many people are desperate to be seen as special.

That does not mean they are not special...

But rather, they need people to see them as special.

They put every special thing they can think of in their bios...

They make these aspects of themselves their entire identities...

Some even go to the point of self-diagnosis (often incorrectly) to be recognized as "more special".

Many people see this...

But few people ask the question...

Why?

Why is it that so many people have this drive to be seen as "special"?

The answer is very simple...

They believe that simply by being special, they will receive something.

But...

There is a problem with this belief.

What most people believe being special will help them receive...

Never provides them with it.

So...

What are the things that people are often seeking...

But that which being special does not mean they will receive?

The first...

Is that being special does not automatically mean you are deserving of respect.

Many people, rightfully, believe they do not receive respect in their lives.

But...

Simply being special does not automatically mean you suddenly deserve respect.

Respect is something that is earned.

It is something that we receive based on our actions...

Often having to do with accomplishments or how we have helped others.

Being special does not inherently mean you deserve respect.

But many people believe they are due respect simply because they are special.

If you want to gain respect...

Consider what actions you do in your life that make you worthy of respect.

What else does being special not provide?

Better treatment.

Many people want to be treated better in life...

Which is a completely normal thing to want.

However...

Just being special does not inherently grant that others must treat you better.

This one is tricky because there are two factors that are at play when it comes to treatment...

What you do in life...

And what others decide to do.

You cannot control what others decide to do.

You can only control what you can do.

If you decide to do things that others dislike...

There is a high likelihood they will not treat you well...

No matter how special you are.

At the same time...

You can do what others want or expect...

And they may still choose not to treat you well.

You can control your actions to be someone worthy of better treatment...

But if others still do not treat you well...

Perhaps the best option is to stop associating with those who do not treat you well...

Because most people do not change...

And if you are doing things that are worthy of good treatment...

Yet others are not treating you well...

In reality and not just in perception...

Then perhaps the problem is them and not you.

But trying to make yourself more special to get better treatment will lead nowhere.

There is another thing that being special does not provide...

The right to receive anything.

Many people think that by being special, others should simply give them things.

That is not how life works.

You do not deserve more time, money, resources, or anything else simply by being special...

And being special does not automatically provide you with more of what you want.

I have seen students who expected better grades because of what made them special.

I have seen athletes who expected more playtime because of what made them special.

I have seen employees who expected promotions and better pay because of what made them special.

I have seen executives and entrepreneurs expect their ideas and businesses to flourish because of what made them special.

And...

In every single situation...

What made them special did not help them.

What you need to understand is what is required to get more of what you seek...

And that rarely has anything to do with what makes you special.

Next, when we consider what being special does not mean...

Is that it does not make you right.

Many people think that whatever makes them special automatically means they are right...

But it does not.

I have seen many people who thought they were right...

Often because of some "side" they aligned with...

But when you look at anything based in reality...

History...

Logical premises...

Scientific research...

Laws...

Mathematical principles...

The truth was that they were simply wrong.

If you want to be right about something...

You need more than the idea that whatever makes you special makes you right.

You need something that is grounded in reality...

That can be checked and verified...

Not based solely on your position or what you want or what you believe...

Not even based solely on what you think you saw or heard (especially in today's heavily propagandized world).

If you want to be taken seriously...

You need to dig into things with real validity to find the truth.

This brings us to the final thing that many people believe being special will provide...

Which is perhaps the most important thing to consider...

But what being special does not mean.

That you will feel fulfilled.

Many people believe that what makes them special will bring fulfillment into their lives...

And that is a large part of why they seek to become "more special".

But fulfillment does not come from what you are.

It never has.

So many people believe that what they are...

What makes them special...

Will someday make them feel fulfilled...

And without fail...

They end up on their deathbed...

Regretting how they spent their life.

Everyone is special in some way...

But few ever actually feel fulfilled in their lives.

What you need to realize in your life...

Is that seeking to become "more special" is not going to provide you with anything more.

You can add and add and add to what makes you "special"...

But it is not going to change whether you feel fulfilled.

If you do not feel fulfilled...

You can add some other reason that exists that makes you feel "special"...

But you will end up feeling the exact same way...

Unfulfilled.

Your specialness does not have any inherent influence on how fulfilled you feel in life.

Do not fall into that trap.

Many people chase more ways to be "special" their entire lives...

But end up exactly where they started...

Without respect...

Treated exactly the same way...

Lacking what they hoped to obtain...

Realizing they were wrong the entire time...

Unfulfilled.

You may be special...

But it does not mean that these will change.
