Do you begin each morning by consuming a large glass of warm water with honey and lemon? You are not alone in favouring this beverage first thing in the morning; a wide variety of well-known people and wellness professionals also do so. It is claimed that the mixture would flush out toxins, clear up acne, melt away fat, and boost weight reduction; the question is whether or not this straightforward beverage lives up to the claims. I spoke with two medical professionals in order to get an understanding of the impact that the highly acclaimed mixture had on the body.

Is it beneficial to your health to start the day with a glass of hot water spiked with lemon juice and honey?

Surprisingly, the experts fear that the combination might be a formula for catastrophe in the making. "Hot water and honey are considered to be virudh prakruti, which means opposing meals. In the long term, [they may create] digestive disturbances and the interior inflammations that show up as redness on the skin. One expert also rejects as a fallacy the cleansing qualities of hot water with lemon and honey when consumed first thing in the morning.

The fact that the other components (lemon and honey) provide their own set of advantages cannot be refuted; nevertheless, the issue occurs when water is added to the mixture. "Lemon has a strong sour flavour, a light, unctuous texture, and a sticky quality. It is also quite powerful. Honey, on the other hand, has a flavour that is sweet, is heavy and dry, and is chilly in its intensity. Honey and lemon together do encourage healing, but doctors caution against mixing them with hot substances of any kind, even hot water. "This changes their natural qualities, which in turn impacts our digestive and immune system," says an Ayurvedic physician named Dr. Aneesh Manoharan. Honey and lemon together do promote healing.

Is it, in fact, helpful for shedding extra pounds?

The idea that fat may be burned off by consuming hot water with lemon and honey is another dietary myth that has no basis in current scientific research. It is not true that drinking hot water with lime will cause you to lose weight. It has been shown that substituting honey-lemon water for caloric beverages such sweetened tea or coffee may lead to a decrease in calorie intake.

Additionally, professionals stress the need of avoiding improper ways of preparation. "There are some individuals who put lime juice into water that has been brought to a boil, wait for it to cool, and then consume it. Because vitamin C is sensitive to light and heat, following this course of action is not recommended. Its efficacy is reduced when it is heated, and the sooner it begins to denature after being exposed to light for an extended period of time, the more you expose it.

However, adding a squeeze of lime to water not only makes it more appetising, but it also makes it more refreshing, which is very useful during the warmer months when we are seeking for methods to keep our bodies hydrated. It is preferable to mix it with plain or lukewarm water and drink it right away for the greatest benefits. Additionally, it is important to consume it with meals since vitamin C is necessary for iron absorption.

Lemon consumption is beneficial in many different ways." The fruit has pectin fibre, which helps controls food cravings, thereby contributing to better weight management. " " The juice has a high concentration of vitamin C, which is a powerful antioxidant that assists in bolstering our body's immune system. "Additionally, it facilitates digestion, [encourages] the maintenance of fresh breath, and may reduce the risk of kidney stones.

Is it helpful for the digestive system?

Yes. The intestinal barrier is strengthened by vitamin C's ability to nourish the blood vessels and epithelial cells that line the intestines. It stops dangerous germs from entering the stomach and causing inflammation by doing so. If the barrier function is disrupted, it will almost always result in leaky gut syndrome, which is a crucial stage in the beginning stages of irritable bowel syndrome and its subsequent progression. Additionally, it has the potential to replenish other essential antioxidants, such as vitamin E and glutathione, both of which give extra protection against inflammatory processes in the gut.

Despite having an acidic pH prior to digestion, vitamin C produces alkaline by-products once digested and metabolised by the body," she continues. "This is because vitamin C is a water-soluble antioxidant." Having it on an empty stomach, however, may not be the best idea for everyone, particularly those with compromised digestive systems. After drinking lemon water, some individuals find that their stomachs become more acidic than usual. If this is the case for you, it's best to drink the lemon water in smaller amounts or wait to drink it until after you've eaten something.

Would drinking the hot lemon water, which is acidic, be bad for your teeth?

Due to the acidic nature of lemons, excessive intake may cause erosion of the enamel on one's teeth. While drinking a couple of glasses of lemon water each day is beneficial for keeping the digestive system working properly, this should not be done on a daily basis. The dentin layer of the teeth may become exposed when enough enamel is worn away, which can cause the teeth to become sensitive and even painful. Some dentists recommend washing the mouth out with ordinary water immediately after consuming lemon water with a straw or sipping the lemon water via the straw to avoid getting it on the teeth. However, you should hold off on brushing right away since doing so, in conjunction with the recent acid erosion, might result in much more harm being done.
