I Got a Writing Gig At CBR
I'm well aware that I haven't posted on this website very much recently, but there's a good reason for that. To preface this, writing has always been a passion of mine since I was a kid. Ideally, I wanted to create fiction. I wanted to wow people with amazing stories set in fantastical realms or with nail-biting action scenes. This may have been because of my passion for the sci-fi and fantasy genre, but it also stemmed from my love of comic books.

How I Help People With Anxiety
Anxiety today could be considered a universal experience. Nowadays it seems as though if you aren’t anxious, you are considered to be the exception rather than the rule. Anxiety has become such a huge part of our experience that it would be almost strange to think that it might not have as much power over our lives as it does.

Time Stands Still in Pompeii
Entering the gates of Pompeii, I was awestruck by the monstrous gladiator statue at the base of the mighty Mount Vesuvius. It’s difficult to fathom how such an already-intimidating force of nature was at least three times larger than it is now due to its fatal eruption mid-morning, 79 CE. It was also challenging to understand how I was standing on a location where ships used to dock and made Pompeii a vital port of Italy.

What My Fear Taught Me About Optimism
At 12 years old, I experienced a near-death experience drowning in a swimming pool. I remember at some point being afraid to touch the water. I swore up and down that I would never get into the water because the same scenario of me drowning would replay itself like a broken record. Flashing memories of my lungs filling up with water, me slowly losing my breath, struggling to reach the surface. I felt as if I was constantly suffering even after the situation ended. For the first few days, my nose was burning from all of the water I had consumed. I did not feel capable of being in the water anymore. In a sense, you could also say I had PTSD but thank God I survived because I would not be where I am today.

COVID-19 & Mindfulness — 3 things I learnt
I came into close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 this past week and soon tested positive myself. There is a lot of fear instilled when it comes to COVID-19 and I found myself panic; I have to continue my studies for the summer semester, I have a job I need to continue doing well, I need to find time to help around the house and if I am sick then how will I be able to handle everything.

The April Fools: A hero's journey
I am one of the lucky survivors of the expression "boys will be boys." One of the most poignant sayings ever coined, this little gem includes, but is not limited to, a wide range of hormonally induced, reckless, self-imposed ordeals masquerading as rites of passage. Most if not all of these ordeals can be dangerous. Indeed, that is the whole point. In mid-April of 1981, my best friend and I concocted one of our most extreme ordeals during an unseasonably hot and humid four-day stretch of weather.

The line between partner and carer
I don’t get to spend as much time with Evan as either of us would like, but in the moments we get I feel the line blurring between partner and caretaker. That’s not a complaint. I love this man with my whole heart and I’d gladly spend every second of every day looking after him if it meant that we got to be together. He is, very much, my whole world. Honestly, I’m still a bit baffled that it’s me he chose to spend his life with. But as current circumstances dictate, our relationship is changing.

Loving You Loudly
emerson My life used to be amazing. It used to be everything I spent my whole childhood working towards. I was on a full ride, leading the lineup and starting at second base for Arizona State University as a freshman. I had an incredible boyfriend and an amazing family.

Netflix's Hilda: Delightfully Unhinged
Good children’s entertainment becomes harder to find every day. Despite a growing backlog from services like Nickelodeon and Disney, the search for entertaining and educational children’s content still often finds dead ends. Even shows that pass content restrictions and manage to engage their target audience (preferably without rotting their brains) are often felled by one simple question: Are they fun for parents too? No matter how entertaining Paw Patrol may be for children, it fails to engage many adults. Enter Hilda on Netflix.

The Most Important Item I’m Packing In My Beach Bag This Summer. Created with: Dune.
It’s the most wonderful time of year—summertime! There’s nothing like waking up early and spending the day at the beach as you soak up the ocean air and summer sun. As owner of A Wilder Wave, a beachwear boutique for women and kids, I take a considerable amount of time planning out what my beach bag will look like every summer. And needless to say—there are so many things to consider: a good book to read under my umbrella, sunscreen to protect my skin from the sun, and most importantly, refreshments!
