Our “Raise Your Voice Threads” are hosted every other Thursday at 12PM ET to offer creators more avenues to uncover exceptional stories on Vocal. As we are continuously searching for fresh creators and inspiring stories, this thread provides an opportunity to exchange and discuss the stories that have moved and motivated us on Vocal.

How to join the 📢 Raise Your Voice Thread:

  • Introduce yourself in the comment section of this story and tell us what you create on Vocal.
  • Shoutout a Vocal creator you recommend reading. Include the URL of a writer or story that inspired you and why.
  • If you like a story another person has recommended, send that story's creator a like, leave a comment, and/or subscribe to them.

Please follow Vocal’s Community Guidelines and don’t spam your own profile or stories in the thread. We encourage the community to report users or comments that break these guidelines.

Also, make sure you join our Vocal Community Chat every other Tuesday at 12PM ET to discuss insights and platform updates.

We'll start the thread:

After a 9-month hiatus, Ési Flores' return to the platform with the poem, "They Say Love Isn't Real," absolutely entranced us with its scenes of daily border life. Inspired by powerful graffiti art, we feel the humanity of life's challenges in every word and are left wondering who says love isn't real, and who is love real for?

Now it's your turn. Share your favorite stories in the comments below.

This is an old one, but I've been meaning to give it shout-out here for a while. The high school drama is quite a popular choice here on Vocal, and one in which I've been known to dabble myself, and as with any subgenre it has its poles at which certain extremes of lived experience might be narrated. Courtney Ann in the story below gives us a very welcome alterative take to that. Here are the familiar tropes - peer pressure, study anxiety, fashion and hormones - but with a consistent focus on lyricism over grittiness. The author is also a poet, and this is apparent from her prose style - "kissed by the sweet smell of rainwater" is just lovely. Nothing's been heard from this obviously gifted writer for two years now, but I post the above in the hopes of her reading this one day. Where are you, Courtney Ann? https://vocal.media/fiction/school-days-part-1

For someone who is not a poet, I have begun to appreciate the beauty and the talent that Vocal produces. Kristen Bayleat is one of the new authors I have recently been following, her work is amazing and natural. I recommend this piece of hers https://vocal.media/art/dear-favorite-tree

Hey creators, it's just me, Dana again, out here slinging words around. I thought I'd give a shout out to Daphsam for offering some nice Christmas card themed greetings for anyone wanting to create a unique card: https://vocal.media/humor/50-festive-christmas-greetings-serving-up-holiday-cheer-with-birdies-laughter-and-stock-picks

Along with family and holidays- depression hits us during these dark weeks of December. Randy’s piece isn’t heavy handed, but that makes the factual poem that much stronger. https://vocal.media/poets/one-last-supper
