Also, make sure you join our Vocal Community Chat every Tuesday at 12PM ET to discuss insights and platform updates.

We'll start the thread:

Stephen A. Roddewig's The Rocks artfully (pun intended) immerses the reader in a harrowing and perilous situation at sea and provides a colorful background story for the painting, Ships in Distress off a Rocky Coast by Ludolf Backhuysen (1667). The story explores themes of fear, faith, and the fragility of human endeavors in the face of nature's power.

Now it's your turn. Share your favorite stories in the comments below.

Hi all, I'm Lenita. I enjoy writing non-fiction in the motivational degree. Though I often like to include short fiction examples in the NF work. Always looking for skills to improve fiction writing. A fellow writer I have subscribed to is: writemindmatters a NF writer supporting the matters of the mind. Neurology and human behaviour are great interests. I enjoy the way this writer conducts the pieces. Check out the articles here: https://vocal.media/authors/writemindmatters

Hey all! I'm back again on here because I found another great article that brought me back to how I found my creative inspiration: Analise Ferguson's article "How to Tap into Your Hidden Talents." I read a book in my MFA program titled "Mastery" by Robert Greene, which is an excellent read for anyone who considers themselves extravagantly passionate about any subject (regardless of education level!). As suggested by the title, the book has the same theme Ferguson uses in her article on "Unlocking Your Potential." My big takeaway from this article is how it reminded me of my own creative journey. Self-reflection and incubating ideas is like planting seeds in a garden. I, like a lot of creators, have some of those "unfinished" ideas I keep working on as often as I can. Those "unfinished" ideas are never lost or given up on to me. If you have any ideas that you can't let go, take that as a wonderfully positive sign. I hope this feedback is helpful! I definitely can't wait to read more from Analise Ferguson! https://vocal.media/motivation/how-to-tap-into-your-hidden-talents

Don't be fooled by Mother Combs's knowingly quaint nom de plume, because this thoroughly modern parent's never anything but up-to-date! It's simply that tradition and family are foremost among her themes, which is why she's become someone I turn to for reaffirmation of values in which I personally believe. Take a look at her excellent poem below on Memorial Day, which was a holiday many of my other Vocal friends observed (I'm afraid we don't do so ourselves, which probably comes of having been the bad guys twice!). Note the artful way in which Mother Combs weaves strands of exacting and sometimes harsh reality on the demands of military life, together with reminders of the onus thereby placed on us to honour veterans both living and dead. Her final line's sudden and uncompromising shift to banality is a magnificent conclusion, positing the starkest imaginable challenge to those who are happy to sit back and let others fight for them. https://vocal.media/poets/happy-memorial-day

Hi, I'm Novel. I tend to make people laugh. I write lots of stuff everywhere. Thank you everyone who drop by to read every now and then. Sorry if I miss some of the comments, I will get to them eventually. can I blame notifications for that. Poor notification is grossly overworked. Anyway, I just read a wonderfully sad and beautiful love poem by D. Alexander Porter. https://vocal.media/poets/and-i-remember I hope you like it too. I forgot Thursday, sorry. It is now Friday here. So my list is short today.

A How To: I feel that the VM Brass would benefit many young enthusiastic authors, if you would institute what may be the best approach as to introduce offerings within your 'Special' Venue Platform. 'Creators' are reaching to best appeal to more followings for themselves. If we are writers, then we should write into as many different genres as we can 'field' ourselves into - a lot more people to catch us onto their screens.

ABOUT ME: Writing is my life's calling as a discipline that offers constant learning and creativity. My main genres are drama and science-fiction. In addition to that, I also like to blog about TV/movies that inspire me and other feature topics. VOCAL CREATOR: My chosen Vocal contributor is GRACE ALAINA because we have similar tones and themes in our work. Her acrostic in response to the Distraction challenge takes us on the journey of a school crush, which could also apply to a coworker crush. The consistency of circumstantial relationships is so valuable. It also had me thinking that I really need to make sure I get into a regular social setting as a remote worker. https://vocal.media/poets/you-have-curly-hair Awesome work Grace!

Allow me to shout someone else out. Many of us know her. Sheā€™s racked up quite a list of achievements, and yet, I feel no hesitation to shout her out again because Madoka Moriā€™s ā€œSeincraftā€ is just too. Damn. Good. Iā€™m a big Seinfeld enthusiast, so itā€™s quite the achievement that I could see this scene playing out blow for blow in the characterā€™s exact voices and mannerisms. Flawless execution. Just the other day I found myself rereading it for another laugh. Check it out for yourself: https://vocal.media/humor/seincraft

  • Andrew Geist11 months ago

Hello, my name is... Andrew! I didn't know for many years that I enjoy writing. But I do and am enjoying my experience. I presently am attempting to improve my writing skills and storytelling here on vocal. I am presently uploading an unfinished story I was in the process of writing called "Forgiveness in War". I am looking for feedback, and if it's worthwhile my continuing the story. I am available to write!

  • Matthew Fromm11 months ago

Hey Everyone, Matt Fromm here, and while I do a mix of things, I am focusing lately on microfiction. With that said, I'm quite happy with my submission to the painted prose challenge which you can read here: https://vocal.media/art/forward-ch2p10xmn More importantly, my favorite creator right now is BraveStakes https://vocal.media/authors/brave-stakes for a very simple reason--he makes me laugh. I am active on discord and I would recommend everyone joining there!

This is another new-to-me poet: https://vocal.media/poets/words-will-always-last Well done Eric Montgomery, and this also shows how the FB groups help prompt writing. (Shout out to the VSS)

  • F. Leonora Solomon11 months ago

i loved this by Dharrsheena Raja Segarran--she writes stories so dark and so perfect! https://vocal.media/horror/don-t-be-a-mommy-s-boy

  • Sonia Heidi Unruh11 months ago

Shout out to "Is it possible to enjoy poetry?" by JD Pernoste and Anneliese Dahl, https://vocal.media/journal/is-it-possible-to-enjoy-poetry. Regardless of how you answer that question, it's almost certain that you will enjoy their piece! The dynamic literary duo manage to be laugh-out-loud funny while waxing wisely on historical trends in poetry, interspersed with snippets of personal commentary. My only critique is that I wish it referenced the joy of discovering non-European/American poetry. Maybe a sequel ...?

  • Judey Kalchik 11 months ago

I found this poem haunted me long after I read it: https://vocal.media/poets/uncertain-echoes-love-s-fate-unveiled By Muhammed Ahmed Imran Also the image they used speaks to the importance of marrying that with the content. Really good.

  • sleepy drafts11 months ago

Hi, everyone! I'm sleepy/Em ā˜ŗļø I absolutely * loved * Dana's entry for the Painted Prose challenge. There were so many layers to this. It really made me see the painting in a whole new light. https://vocal.media/art/moulin-rogue
