Also, make sure you join our Vocal Community Chat every Tuesday at 12PM ET to discuss insights and platform updates.

We'll start the thread:

American Youth in the Venceremos Brigade makes a compelling and thought-provoking contribution to the new History Community, and showcases what the author, Atomic Historian, does best. Through a meticulous examination of primary sources, the article paints a nuanced picture of the motivations, dynamics, and cultural clashes within the Venceremos Brigade, an activist organization formed in the United States to show solidarity with the Cuban Revolution in the late 1960s. We also appreciate the use of the new Content Warning tag.

Now it's your turn. Share your favorite stories in the comments below.

i have been missing in action, but i am excited to get back to reading--i cannot wait to see what Em Starr, Naomi Gold and Lisa Herdman have written in particular! Highly recommend you seek them out!!!

This week I'd like to recommend Lametria Marable's science fiction shocker ORB, particularly the prelude below (the piece is a novel in progress, and after reading what's already there I suspect you'll be looking forward to the finished work as much as I am!). With an accomplished economy of prose Lametria plunges the reader into her tense and ominous mise-en-scene, calling to mind cinematic classics along the lines of Earth Versus the Flying Saucers and War of the Worlds, whilst an up-to-date edginess situates us simultaneously in the post-CGI era. The first half of this story is masterfully paced so as to put the reader in mind of a movie trailer, in apposite metafictional acknowledgement of Lametria's source material. Subsequent to this we begin to settle to a narrative promising the tropes and intrigues which fans of this genre demand. Check it out below, and keep watching the skies! https://vocal.media/fiction/orb-65qa5e0gqi

Hi I'm Cindy. I write mostly fiction and some poetry. I see mostly poems on this thread so I thought I would share an older (2 month-😊) fiction piece from Will McGee a.k.a The Invisible Writer that really should have more eyes on it. https://vocal.media/horror/mirror-mirror-ny26s0duf Tells a different version of ending to Snow White with a touch of horror. The writing is so impressive.

Hey everyone, I’m Mackenzie, I create poetry and short stories here on Vocal. I need to tell you all about Stephen Christopher McKnight! He got a top story yesterday for Electric Meat (https://vocal.media/fiction/electric-meat) which is FANTASTIC. I urge you all to read it. And check out his other stories. I’m a fan of Honorable Faceless Thing (https://vocal.media/fiction/honorable-faceless-thing) and Miscellany (https://vocal.media/fiction/miscellany). Truly an under appreciated creator.

  • Loryne Andawey11 months ago

Good afternoon everyone! My name is Loryne Andawey and I serve as an Admin at the Facebook Group Vocal+Assist. After a little break I'm here with 5 more hidden gems from some of our new members! 1. First up is a strong clear voice from Batolisis in his poem If You Can published in the new Men Community https://vocal.media/men/if-you-can-2nk104gt 2. Followed by a sweet love haiku by Christopher Chandler with Kiss https://vocal.media/poets/kiss-l498t0t5m 3. A raw and intimate article is provided here by Rebekah Sian Crawley. For mothers who have experienced Post-Natal Anxiety, women who have been or plan to become pregnant, and family members who have experienced this second hand, this is an important article. https://vocal.media/psyche/postnatal-anxiety-a-raw-honest-account-of-how-it-happened-to-me 4. We then shake it up with a belly dancing playlist by Sav Map. Anyone else try belly dancing? I'm too scared to do it! https://vocal.media/beat/bellydance-playlist-for-anxiety-and-abs 5. Last but not least we have D.D. Lee and his microfiction Sour Grapes. This one got my inner money gremlin giggling. https://vocal.media/fiction/sour-grapes-0ek40mqn Hope you all enjoy!

  • Hi all. I’m Steve. I write mainly fiction… sci-fi/fantasy/speculative/horror/ you name it… and love to write me some comedy. I wanted to link you all to this story https://vocal.media/fiction/oculi-maledictum by killonovai. She has many great pieces but this was one of the first I had read from her, it’s creepy and haunting and so descriptive! I think you all should check it out for some mind-twisting fun.

  • Mohammed Darasi11 months ago

Hello, mohammed here. Usually write stories, poetry and some articles here and there. I read a poem by heather that I thought was quite vivid and full of emotion: https://vocal.media/poets/the-taste-of-you

  • Dana Crandell11 months ago

[In my best "Chunk" voice:] "Hey, you Gu-uuuuys!" It's Dana again. I write poetry, stories of life and recently I'm dipping my toes into the waters of fiction. I'm currently exploring some publishing for print options. I want to highlight the work of Mike Singleton - MikeyDred. He's an incredible poet and author, as well as one of the most supportive creators I know. Here's a piece he wrote recently for a couple of friends: https://vocal.media/poets/cherri-and-autumn

  • ARC11 months ago

Hi Vocalists! I'm so happy to have found Tonya R. Moore through her recent win in the Microfiction Challenge. Y'ALL. HAVE YOU READ THE REST OF HER WORK!?!?!? She is out of this world. (Literally, in some cases. Metaphorically, in all cases.) Her piece on overcoming depression and mental trauma is so powerful. "The Erosion and Reclamation of Self-Worth" : https://vocal.media/psyche/the-erosion-and-reclamation-of-self-worth Her piece on (and titled) Time Travel is amazing as well: https://vocal.media/futurism/time-travel-di1tj03tb Both of these would make terrific Top Stories so more people can benefit from this woman's skill and insight. Lots of love to all the amazing Creators on this platform and thread 💙

Hey folks, my name is Paul and I mess around with words. Poetry, fiction, other stuff...ranging from the surreal and strange to deep and reflective. I've read such a wide range of awesome stuff...so many things got Top Story. First up, I want to highlight ugly thoughts by Heather Hubler - this is a dark little thing, but so beautifully done. https://vocal.media/poets/ugly-thoughts Next, I wanted to highlight the twisted microfiction story by Em Starr called Sucker-Love. This is one of those stories that takes root in your brain and leaves you pondering it for many hours afterwards, even though it's only 200 words. https://vocal.media/fiction/sucker-love Also, let's get some reads to Rebekah Sian Crawley for this stunning piece of poetry. Called Next Time your Heart Breaks https://vocal.media/poets/next-time-your-heart-breaks Brenton F has been one of my favourite writers on here for some time now. It would be hard to pick just one out, but Spawn Point really stopped me in my tracks this week! https://vocal.media/poets/spawn-point Finally, there's Lamar Wiggins and his beautiful acrostic called Chapters https://vocal.media/poets/chapters-vsn60u8o

  • Heather Hubler11 months ago

Hi everyone! I just read this story by PoppythePoet this morning, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. I always love her poetry but I think this is the first long fiction I've read by her and it was stellar. https://vocal.media/fiction/scarlett-bv5x0ii0
