i don’t care who's wrong
i don't care who's right
but i do know
the kid that got shot
in the throat
and bled out
in a pig sty
a minute ago in [applicable country of choice]
it wasn't his fault
somewhere on this fucked up planet
a door bursts open
armed men masked men
proper fuckin heroes
burst in and point guns
at you
and your family
guns in your stomach
guns at your heads
they yell in a different language
try telling them
it’s not your fuckin fault
it’s war everyone is a target
it wasn’t his fault
if ya don’t killed ya get a medal
it wasn’t his fault
and some trauma
it wasn’t his fault
a bit of PTSD
it wasn’t his fault
some suicidal thoughts
it wasn’t his fault
a lot of background noise
see the white noise
feel the white noise
be the white noise
heed the white noise
and if you get killed
now that is your fault
and then
you’re just
another damp spot
in a mass grave
there is no,
no fucking spawn point

This pretty much encapsulates everything I think, feel and know about war. I had no idea what a spawn point was before reading this, but now that I know, it's a perfect metaphor. Great poem, Brenton.
This was brutal, and that last line – no fucking spawn point – is perfect in its finality. Nobody “wins” a war when life is being lost on both sides.
This was stunning. So much truth, sad sad truth and love how it developed and rammed home the point so there was no denying it!
This was just so sad. I don't and will never understand the need for a war.
Wow. This transformed from one thing to another so swiftly I was left reeling. What a well done, powerful piece.
“It’s war everyones a target” such a sobering truth. Great read, Brenton.
Oh my god, this is spectacular. I was practically yelling it, in my head, as I read it. Fabulous pace
