Dive into a really good book, perhaps one where you learn to cook

Inside every cover, treasures lurk, reading equals joy, it's not hard work

Sit on your sofa or an old rocking chair, and read a tragic horror if you bravely dare

Thoughts engaged, they twist and sway, an unforeseen journey is underway

Ravishing plots, swiftly pass time; better to read, than face the daily grind

Action words cause your heart to jump, sad words can cause your throat to lump

Contemplative words, give you pause, victorious words deserve applause

Tales of facts, fable or fiction, easily satisfy this healthy addiction

Illustrated rhythms in the form of syntax, invites your muscles to finally relax

Overcommit with a choice epic novel, ten times better than to sit and grovel

Next time life gives too much to gather, Chillax, open a book and read a few chapters.

This was beautiful, I definitely use books as a way to escape!

I love this take so much!! You captured the beautiful distraction from real life that is a book :) Some very beautiful and rich descriptions in here; excellent! 😊❤️

Ah, I can't wait until I can enjoy all these sensations again! Well done, Lamar!

Ah, yes, my favorite distraction of all time. I sometimes wonder if us lifelong bookworms all had awful or incredibly boring childhoods we were escaping… because most adults don’t suddenly take up reading as a hobby unless they’re in prison or something. I wonder why I wasn’t out climbing trees. But as you put it, it’s a “healthy addiction”! Could be much worse. 😊

I liked this and forgot to comment on it. This is so beautifully done, Lamar. So relatable, so true. And you manage to distract away from it being an acrostic, so bravo for that too!

  • Such engrossing distraction.

  • I love books and I love reading. It's such a beautiful escape from reality. We can experience everything in the world just by hallucinating by staring at ink on pieces of a dead tree. Okay that came out dark. I meant imagination by reading a book, lol. But I saw that line in a meme somewhere and had to use it. Loved your poem!

Thank you. I thoroughly enjoyed following this trail of distraction. I hope that you keep writing. The world needs your voice.

“Tales of facts, fable or fiction, easily satisfy this healthy addiction” I so relate to this line.

Perfect! Books are life, in my opinion :) And this had such a great rhythm, loved it from start to finish.

No such thing as to many words about books! Your words are powerful!
