THE PURGE IS NOT DESTRUCTION

A Manifesto on Narcissistic Abuse, Emotional Truth, and the Architecture of Release

By THE HONED CRONEPublished 4 months ago 3 min read

There is a kind of healing that does not arrive gently.

It arrives like pressure.

Like something living inside the body that must be expelled—slowly, violently, honestly—because it can no longer be contained without distortion.

Narcissistic abuse does not enter as a single event. It accumulates. It layers itself through contradiction: harm wrapped in charm, violation followed by tenderness, confusion disguised as love. The result is not clarity—it is fragmentation.

You do not leave with one clean wound.

You leave with a system of wounds that still argue with each other.

One part says: I was loved.

Another says: I was harmed.

Another says nothing at all, because it learned that speaking was dangerous.

And so the truth does not leave all at once.

It returns as pressure.

The Mixed Signal Is the Mechanism

The most disorienting aspect of narcissistic dynamics is not only the harm itself, but the way it is obscured.

Good is displayed like evidence.

Kindness is used as contradiction.

Tender moments are held up like proof that the harm cannot be what it feels like.

And in that tension, perception fractures.

You begin to doubt the weight of what you lived through.

You minimize what was real because something else, also real, was placed beside it.

This is not confusion by accident.

It is confusion as structure.

And when the structure collapses, the body begins to speak in full volume.

The Purge

What I am describing is not metaphor only.

It is somatic.

It is emotional.

It is the body attempting to complete what was interrupted.

It can feel like a cyst being squeezed open—everything that was stored, compressed, delayed, finally demanding release.

Rage.

Grief.

Humiliation.

Betrayal.

Clarity.

They do not arrive in order.

They arrive together.

And the instinct is to either suppress them again, or explode.

But neither suppression nor explosion completes the cycle.

The work is something more precise.

Something more difficult.

Something more sacred in its restraint.

Expression Without Self-Destruction

There is a form of release that is not self-erasure.

It does not require destruction to be real.

It does not require collapse to be honest.

It is possible to let the body move, to let the voice come, to let the emotion rise—without losing the thread of self.

Without turning the healing into re-entry.

Without mistaking intensity for truth.

The difference is presence.

The difference is: I am feeling this versus I am becoming it again.

One clears.

The other traps.

The Role of Faith in the Dark

There are moments in this process where nothing feels certain except endurance.

Where the emotional weather is so dense it seems endless.

And in those moments, something internal either breaks the line—or holds it.

Not through suppression.

Not through denial.

But through a deeper decision:

I will not abandon myself inside this feeling.

I will not turn the pain into action that destroys me.

I will not confuse release with ruin.

This is not passivity.

It is containment under pressure.

It is survival with awareness.

What Comes After

When the wave passes—because it always passes—there is a strange clarity.

Not because the past becomes smaller.

But because it becomes coherent.

The mixed signal resolves into truth:

what harmed you was harm, even if it was wrapped in moments of warmth.

What you felt was real, even if it was contradicted.

What you survived has weight, even if others could not see it clearly.

And most importantly:

You did not lose yourself inside it.

You moved through it without abandoning yourself completely.

Closing

Healing is not the elimination of rage.

It is the integration of it.

It is learning that truth can be fully felt without becoming chaos.

That emotion can be complete without becoming destruction.

That memory can be honored without reopening the wound endlessly.

The purge is not destruction.

It is the body finishing a story that was never allowed to complete itself.

And if it feels like pressure, like fire, like something too large to contain—it is because it is finally being seen in full.

Not diluted.

Not negotiated.

Not split in two.

Whole.
