Spiced Nut Mocha Cupcakes
Of course, you probably know me very well for invading Vocal with my film studies stuff and articles entitled ‘a filmmaker’s guide’. I have often explained that I love to bake as well. Since I was young, I have loved the idea, the creativity and the relaxation of baking different things. I love to make macarons, layer cakes and gingerbread in particular and the activity of it really gets me away from my laptop (where I’m sure you know that I spend most of my life). So, I hope you enjoy me talking about what I bake and why I bake it complete with pictures (if not very good) of me actually baking, my baked goods in the process of being created and when they’re finished. I’m really happy to share this with you. And if you like, you can show me your baking (yes, I spend a lot of time writing, but I also spend a lot of time reading other people’s articles!), I would love to see it. Since I was in school, I was always interested in creating things, whether that be pieces of writing, welding things to make small statues or baking foods and making sweets (candy, if you’re American). I hope you enjoy looking at some of the stuff that has honestly kept me sane, because I seem to be going slightly mad.

Things I'm Passionate About Part 13
Part 13 of things I’m passionate about. 1. Gum I love gum. Straight up, it’s good for helping with an oral fixation, like the kind you can get from smoking or habitual eating. Whether that be boredom eating, emotional eating, or whatever. It can also change your mood depending on the taste or smells it evokes. I know some people think that that’s related to things like aroma therapy which a lot of people think is hokum, but certain flavors of gum, like with teas can help change my mood, and even if it’s psychosomatic, isn’t that kind of the point? I love the taste, I love using it as a way to help stave off my overeating habits, there’s some studies that point out that chewing primes your digestive enzymes and so having no food go in after chewing could mess with your hormones, but I’ll have to do more research on that. I’m going to be writing about the science of gum chewing and the origins and manufacture of gum itself, but also reviews on all the different types of gum I try and enjoy.

Thanksgiving Miracles
I was alone on Thanksgiving. Nothing unusual about that, and nothing sad. It was by choice. Erin had gone to Texas to be with her family. I had stayed home in San Francisco, rather than travel all the way to Southern California to spend time with mine. My family didn’t really understand, but I had blamed it on work. They needed employees over the holidays, and wanted us to choose between time off for Thanksgiving or time off for Christmas. That was the truth, and almost every year of my adult life, I have worked on the evening of Thanksgiving. Later on, I would also work every Christmas when I decided not to travel then either. This year, despite making myself available, work didn’t even schedule me. I had the day off to be alone at home. That would be the first of three Thanksgiving Miracles I would experience on November 24, 2005.

The most delicious gratitude-trigger
This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for chocolate. Because dear God, we all could use some freakin’ chocolate after the year we’ve had. But really, I’m thankful for chocolate because of what it represents. Chocolate is a state of mind. Chocolate is slowing down and smelling the roses. Chocolate is luxury. Chocolate is simplicity. Chocolate is being in the moment and enjoying life.

Candy Tier-List
So it is no surprise that candy is a fun and exciting treat to have for yourself or to share with others! But deciding between all the different choices can be hard if you are an indecisive person! This is an opinion, but not all candy is created equal in deliciousness. I found a fun tiermaker list that I spent about 10 minutes creating my own Tier List for candies commonly found in the US. Here are those results!
