The word “chakra” is Sanskrit for “wheel” or “vortex,” and refers to the spinning wheels of energy that are said to exist in seven different locations along the spine. Chakras are energy centers within the human body that are thought to play a crucial role in our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Each chakra is associated with specific physical, emotional, and spiritual qualities, and is thought to correspond to a different aspect of our lives. For example, the root chakra, located at the base of the spine, is associated with our connection to the earth and our sense of security, while the crown chakra, located at the top of the head, is associated with our connection to the divine and our spiritual awareness.

Chakras are energy centers that are believed to exist in the human body in most Eastern spiritual traditions, particularly in Hinduism and Yoga. They are believed to play a crucial role in maintaining physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. According to ancient Indian texts, the human body is said to contain 114 chakras, of which 7 are considered to be the main chakras, and the other 107 are considered to be the minor chakras.

The seven main chakras are:

Muladhara (Root Chakra): This chakra is located at the base of the spine and represents grounding and stability. It is associated with the color red and governs our sense of safety and security.

Swadhisthana (Sacral Chakra): This chakra is located below the navel and represents our sexuality and creativity. It is associated with the color orange and governs our ability to feel pleasure, joy, and emotions.

Manipura (Solar Plexus Chakra): This chakra is located above the navel and represents our personal power and confidence. It is associated with the color yellow and governs our self-esteem and decision-making.

Anahata (Heart Chakra): This chakra is located in the center of the chest and represents love, compassion, and kindness. It is associated with the color green and governs our ability to love and be loved.

Vishuddha (Throat Chakra): This chakra is located in the throat and represents communication and self-expression. It is associated with the color blue and governs our ability to speak truthfully and listen.

Ajna (Third Eye Chakra): This chakra is located between the eyebrows and represents intuition and wisdom. It is associated with the color indigo and governs our ability to see beyond the physical realm and access our inner guidance.

Sahasrara (Crown Chakra): This chakra is located at the top of the head and represents our connection to the divine. It is associated with the color purple and governs our ability to experience a higher consciousness and connect to the universe.

The rest of the chakras are known as minor chakras and are believed to play a role in supporting the health and functioning of the main chakras.

As a reiki master, the hand chakras are of particular interest to me. The hand chakras are energy centers located in the palms and fingers of the hands, and they are associated with specific aspects of our lives, such as relationships, communication, and creativity.

The names and functions of some of the hand chakras are:

Thumb chakra: located at the base of the thumb and governs communication, self-expression and personal power.

Index finger chakra: located at the tip of the index finger and governs personal creativity and inspiration.

Middle finger chakra: located at the tip of the middle finger and governs balance, stability and clarity of thought.

Ring finger chakra: located at the tip of the ring finger and governs emotions, relationships and love.

Little finger chakra: located at the tip of the little finger and governs mental agility and intelligence.

Palm chakras: located in the center of each hand and are believed to act as receivers and transmitters of energy, receiving energy from the universe and sending it out to the rest of the body.

It is important to note that while some belief systems acknowledge hand chakras, their existence and functions are not universally accepted in all spiritual or energy healing practices. Further research and personal experiences may be necessary to determine their effectiveness and role in overall health and well-being.

Some esoteric and spiritual traditions recognize additional chakras located above the crown chakra.

The names of these additional chakras vary among different spiritual traditions, but they generally include:

Soul Star Chakra: Located 6 to 8 inches above the crown, it is associated with spiritual connection, divine guidance, and higher consciousness.

Stellar Gateway Chakra: It is located 12 to 18 inches above the crown and is related to the connection with the starry realms, universal love, and cosmic wisdom.

Cosmic Chakra: It is located about 2 to 3 feet above the crown and is related to a connection with the cosmic consciousness and the sense of oneness with the universe.

Divine Gateway Chakra: It is located about 4 to 5 feet above the crown and is associated with the connection with the divine source, enlightenment, and higher will.

The specific functions and associations of these chakras may vary among different spiritual traditions, but in general, they are related to spiritual connection, higher consciousness, and divine connection. However, it is important to note that not all spiritual and esoteric traditions recognize these additional chakras.

Balancing and opening the chakras is believed to bring physical, emotional and spiritual benefits, such as increased energy, reduced stress, improved emotional well-being, and heightened spiritual awareness. Techniques such as meditation, yoga, visualization, and energy healing can be used to balance and activate the chakras.

It's also important to note that while the concept of chakras is widely accepted in Eastern spirituality, it is not considered to be a scientific or medical concept. However, many people have reported positive experiences and benefits from working with their chakras, and there is a growing body of research exploring the connection between energy healing and physical and psychological well-being. Whether you believe in the existence of chakras or not, incorporating techniques to maintain balance and harmony in your life can have positive effects on your well-being.

Chakras are said to be connected to the aura, or energy field that surrounds the body. The aura is thought to reflect the energy state of the individual, and is composed of various layers and colors that correspond to different aspects of the person's life. When the chakras are balanced and flowing, they are said to radiate positive energy into the aura, which in turn promotes physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. When the chakras become blocked or imbalanced, however, they can disrupt the flow of energy in the aura, leading to physical, emotional, and spiritual problems.

Aura reading can play a role in identifying imbalances within the chakras. During an aura reading, the practitioner will observe and interpret the colors, patterns, and shapes within the aura, and use this information to gain insight into the individual's thoughts, emotions, and overall well-being. By identifying any blockages or imbalances within the aura, the practitioner can help the individual restore balance to their energy field and improve their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

In addition to aura reading, there are various techniques that can be used to balance and align the chakras, including meditation, visualization, and energy healing practices such as Reiki. These techniques can help individuals release negative energy and emotions, and restore balance to their chakras and aura.

Now you see that chakras are energy centers within the human body that play a crucial role in our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, and you know that chakras are connected to the aura, or energy field that surrounds the body, and can be balanced and aligned through various techniques, including aura reading, meditation, visualization, and energy healing practices. So whether you are seeking to improve your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, or are simply interested in exploring the connection between the chakras and the aura, exploring the concept of chakras can be a valuable and enlightening journey.
