She would often spend hours on end practicing, feeling like it was the only thing she had control over in her life.

Her mental health struggles began to take a toll on her performance in games. Lena would find herself feeling anxious and panicky during the game, causing her to make mistakes and miss shots. Her confidence as a player began to decline, and she felt like she was letting her team down.

But Lena didn't want to give up on her love of sports. She turned to her coach for help, who suggested she see the school counselor. Slowly but surely, Lena began to make progress in tending to her mental health. She started practicing mindfulness and meditation, which allowed her to better manage her anxiety.

With these practices in place, Lena learned to focus on the present moment, to let go of negative thoughts and to enjoy the game. She even began to see improvement in her skills and performance. Lena started to understand that sports can be both mentally and physically challenging, but with discipline and focus, it can also be a great help in coping with mental health struggles.

As Lena continued her high school journey, she became a strong advocate for the importance of mental health in athletics. She was part of many discussions and mental health events that the school organized for students. Lena went on to play sports in college, and then a professional baller in the WNBA.

Additionally, participating in sports and physical activity can also help to increase self-esteem and self-confidence. Accomplishing physical goals, such as finishing a race or lifting a heavier weight, can provide a sense of achievement and self-worth. The social aspect of sports can also help to improve mental health by providing a sense of community and social support.

On the other hand, the lack of physical activity can lead to the development of mental health issues. Sedentary behavior has been linked to an increased risk of depression, anxiety, and stress. This is because when we are inactive, we produce fewer endorphins, which can negatively impact our mood and mental health.

Sports have been found to have a tremendously positive impact on mental health. Many athletes speak about the mental release they get from playing, and studies have shown that physical exercise releases endorphins which are natural mood enhancers. Exercise helps in reducing stress and anxiety, and during physical activity, the focus is shifted to the present moment, leaving no space for racing thoughts or worries.

Being part of a team can boost one's self-esteem and help overcome feelings of loneliness and isolation.
