The Coronavirus flipped our world upside down and now, apart from getting dressed up to put the bins out or to go grocery shopping, we are all at home. The most exciting thing about our days are phone calls from friends or going outside for our government approved exercises.

Are you bored and have nothing to do? Are you feeling lonely, depressed, and unable to hang out with your friends? If you have answered yes to both of these questions, I have the perfect solution to ease your loneliness. As you have already noticed, the coronavirus pandemic has already taken a toll on millions of people who have lost their jobs, being separated from the people that they love, not working at the moment, or all of the above. There has been a dramatic spike in calls to mental health and suicide prevention hotlines since this outbreak began. Believe me. I’m currently going through the same issues as those suffering from mental illness. The nonstop news coverage of the coronavirus pandemic has taken a toll on me mentally and probably for others as well.

Inhale. “Woooo-sahhhh.” Good. We can do this. Has your isolation just begun? I’m living in South Korea and have been off work and isolated since February 28th. Welcome to the party!

As a sit on my new, yet not so new, “home office” made up of a love seat, a chair and a bunch of wild power cords charging everything, I look back on some of my favourite and new favourite songs that keep me going through out the day to get pumped into the much needed weekend. I realize a lot of them are dance songs and three out of the fifteen songs are in another language other than English. I think it’s a great experience to have a variety of dance music to enjoy throughout the week because it uplifts your mood and sprits (and hopefully you immune system!). I listen to these songs when I need a pick-me-up or something to help motivate me to move or to create. Also, these songs are my go-to if I am cleaning, cooking or even creating artwork (doodles and drafts count too, right?). Even when my “creation” does not turn out as planned at least I had my fun moving and grooving to the musical playlist on Youtube.

No, it doesn’t feature any REM. With nothing but time on our hands, we’ve been occupying ourselves with all manner of new, house-bound activities. From TikTok dances to Tiger King, Banana-bread baking to mask-making, happiness — or at least entertainment? — is found in strange places during this lockdown life.

Tuning out the world, while I humn silently to the Beetles on my playlist, I'm suddenly jarred awake from my reverie when my sister chucks a pillow at my head.

Recently, two days ago, it was raining cats and dogs outside, and the weather was being a pain to the muscles in my legs and arms. While I was listening to my professor’s lecture on Zoom yesterday evening, I was starting to feel tired, so I fell asleep. When I woke up, my screen was black, and that’s when I realized that the session was over. I got out of my bed and noticed that it was still raining from that morning.

“The Black Plague during an election”?I don’t put much stock in conspiracies, so as one who has “lived through” the bird flu, swine flu, zika, and ebola pandemonium, I just have a “this too shall pass” mentality towards this novel coronavirus.
