Preserved Scandal: The History of Bob Guccione and Kodak Film
While ChatGPT continues to help provide background information in the beginning stages of research, it still falls flat when pulling specific information and offering a next step for further learning about a topic. This strength and weakness are both on full display when it comes to the history of Bob Guccione's use of Kodak film for his risqué photography, providing background on the format while omitting the story of when Kodak refused to process photographs of Cheryl Rixon.

It doesn't truly hit me until the plane's rickety doors swing open to reveal the expanse of blinding blue sky that I realize we're meant to jump - right now.

The River Styx
The mirror showed a reflection that wasn’t my own. I have that written on my gravestone. It’s a tradition in my town to put someone’s last words on their gravestone. But they bungled it up. They fixed the grammar.

Posthumous
The mirror showed a reflection that wasn’t my own. Flashing. Pure. Cold. The moment I spot it, I fall against the bathroom wall and put a hand on my mouth to stifle the scream.

Introduction This week I made a huge mistake (though like all my huge mistakes caused by believing I was doing the right thing) but I do not do stress but shall we say I put a lot of effort into getting things right, and I am almost in a position that I want to be but have a feeling that in two week time, I will be back close to perfection.

The possums are taking over
Definitely not playing possum I lived in the county until I was 19 and never saw the critters that I am noticing since moving to the city. Deer, turkey vultures, groundhogs, skunks, possums, and raccoons were not a part of my early life and my brother says it's because they had lots of woods to live in. In 2020 at a previous address I saw what I first thought were baby rats near the backyard fence but upon further inspection and looking at pictures on the Internet, I realized they were baby possums playing in the grass. A few days later one of them was lying dead and the others were gone.

“I’m out! I don’t wanna hear anything about this!” “Petra, come on, hear me out. I know it’s controversial, but how narrow-minded could people actually be? Wait, are you narrow-minded too?” smirked Connor.

~~~ Meg slipped the cigarette between her lips and smiled wryly as the students walked past her and into the building, each one offering her a different passive aggressive gesture, some more obvious than others–wrinkled noses, hands waving wildly at the fleeting smoke, and of course, there were the fake coughers.
The sun beat down mercilessly on the dystopian landscape outside the Godfrey Medical Center, the air thick with the stench of pollution and decay. Inside the sterile halls of the facility, however, the atmosphere was one of hope and anticipation.
The impact of chance is something we often don't immediately realize. At least, that's been my experience over the years. Looking back, I know that the “accidental” crossing of paths in the past has had much to do with the person I am today. This is the story of one unusual chance meeting that changed my entire outlook, although the realization didn't come to me right away.
In honor of Earth Day, I'd like to share a beautiful transcript that has become a staple in my weekly reading: Thanksgiving Address, Greetings to the Natural World. Ohén:ton Karihwatéhkwen (Words Before All Else). This transcript consists of the traditional Native American words of Thanksgiving from the Native Haudenosaunee (hoe-dee-no-SHOW-nee) people, also known as Iroquois (ee-ruh-kwaa) or Six Nations: Mohawk (mow-haak), Oneida (oh-ny-duh), Onondaga (aa-nuhn-daa-guh), Cayuga (kay-YOO-Ga), Seneca (seh-nuh-kuh), and Tuscarora (tuh-skuh-RAW-ruh)- of upstate New York and Canada (Thanksgiving Address, intro).
Nostalgic Crush: AI Predicts What Decade Will Inform Trends Next
From butterfly clips and low rise jeans to vintage-inspired shows such as "Daisy Jones and the Six" and "Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies," nostalgia-informed fashion and culture seem to be taking over today's trends. As all-consuming as this might feel, the March 1980 issue of Penthouse proves that it is not a new phenomenon at all. Reading Marjorie Rosen's "View From the Top" column "Bring Back the Sixties," it becomes clear that culture has been stuck in this cycle for many years. Asking AI about this recurrence reveals a bit more history on the trend, an apt overview of how archives fit in, and examples in today's culture we have all observed firsthand.
Can Seeking Enlightenment Soothe Grief?
I’m officially a cliché. After several months of grieving my father, I have apparently entered the “pray” section of “Eat Pray Love.” (I admit I tried and failed to finish this book last summer! When Elizabeth Gilbert starts writing out the breathing practices of her meditation in extended detail I lost the will to go on!)
I could be a hero every day. Save the day, every day. Or most days. Many days. No one knows. Can you imagine? I am single. I have had relationships. Short relationships, which are initially fun and, later, leave me feeling worthless. I live alone. And I rarely see people, these days. But I have a mother, and a brother and cousin who was raised in my back yard. And even though my mother thinks I don’t try hard enough, and my brother thinks I’m lazy, and my cousin would rather watch TV alone that sit at the table and eat a family dinner, I love them, and they love me, and so four times a year, I fly across the country to see them. So here I am. Seat 17A, allocated at check in, hand luggage only.
