Top Ten Met Gala Faves
Alright, this list is obviously based on my own subjective taste. Most of the outfits that celebrities wear are not even chosen by them, themselves. So I honestly do not understand why celebrities get roasted for wearing something that is perhaps too outside of the box. My intention is not to shade anyone, or make it personal. I do not know the celebrities or the designers who made these ensembles. I simply love clothes, and here are my humble two cents on who looked amazing at the Met. My tastes run in pieces that are loud but classy, not just loud. And I do not mean classy from a conservative stance. The best way I can differentiate it is that I prefer the fantasy over a whole festival. I hope that makes sense. And at the end of the day, to each their own. It is truly not the end of the world if our tastes in clothes are not the same. And yes I am quite aware of the theme—which left much to be desired.
The True Cost of Your Wardrobe
When you think about the fashion industry, "climate crisis" probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. In fact for many people, the two barely link. In this age of cheap clothing where you can essentially bulk-buy items to always have a different outfit of the day, almost everybody has a wardrobe full of clothes they seldom wear. Whether they are branded or made to a higher quality, whether they are from eBay/Primark, and it falls apart after a few washes, the clothes we own are contributing massively to climate change. Thanks to numerous non-profit organisations, and social media advocates, the true environmental cost of fashion is coming to light.

From the Kardashian Klan to LeBron to the latest trending movie, TV, or sports star, we have seen the rise of the persona as the driving force in advertising and marketing today.

"They say "Why are you dressed like it's Halloween? You look so absurd, you look so obscene!"Oh, why can't I live a life for me?Why should I take the abuse that's served? Why can't they see they're just like meIt's the same, it's the same in the whole wide world."—Ministry

I can vividly remember visiting my older cousins when I was a child and getting ecstatic when I walked through the door and saw three gigantic garbage bags filled with clothes for me to try on and shop "for free." There would be college t-shirts that made me feel like a grown up and there would be nice dresses that I knew I would never wear, but they would look good in my closet when my friends came over to play.
Ashley DeanPublished 5 years ago in StyledWhat Is Normcore?
Once upon a time, there were individuals who did not care about fashion trends and would wear anything that was comfy. Individuals who on their day off loved non-cool sneakers and non-trendy skinny jeans. These were individuals who did not care to know what hemline was out and what color was in. These were individuals who took the description of classic clothing (long-lasting, simple, and elegant) and removed the style and elegance from of the definition. These were individuals who unknowingly invented "Normcore."
Lindsay ParksPublished 5 years ago in StyledHow to Dress Like a Goth (Without Looking Terrible)
It was only about ten or fifteen years ago that the goth scene was something to be afraid of. Back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the gothic subculture consisted of people who stood out from society, wore dark and baggy clothing, and shopped at Hot Topic. Gothic fashion wasn’t nearly as appreciated as it is now. Today, however, gothic outfits have taken a turn and goth styles have been reinvented on the runway and in the streets. “Goth fashion” has become a statement style of dress inspired by the goth look from years past. All it takes is the proper inspiration and statement pieces to dress like a goth without looking terrible, and you can join in on the goth scene and make a statement all your own!

This post contains affiliate links, meaning a small commission is earned if you sign up to Masterclass. Though most people would never guess it, I’ve always dreamt about being a fashion designer. I’ve often mulled over the idea of starting my own tee shirt line, modifying jeans for a living, or just adding extra embellishments to my gear.

Brittany KoshyPublished 6 years ago in StyledThe Art of Thrift-Shopping
Patience, Patience, Patience The first tip I can give is to go into your thrifting adventure with an open mind, and with the patience of a zen Buddha. Thrifting has a lot of misses, many more misses than hits if we are being honest. You probably won't find that amazing pair of Miu Miu heels in your size at the first Goodwill you step into. You probably won't find any Miu Miu at any Goodwill, like, ever. That being said once in a while you will find that "I can't believe this is $12.00" hidden treasure, and it will make everything worth it.
Andres MarinPublished 6 years ago in StyledThe Lexicon of Street Culture
As the bad-boy of fashion is increasingly co-opted by the luxury market, it’s perhaps important to remind ourselves of streetwear's roots, intrinsic values, and the man whom many say started the whole thing in the first place—Shawn Stussy.
