Is there one this week ?

  • Mother Combs11 months ago

For a thought-provoking poet, please consider Real Poetic. Their poems always feel so relatable, plus they are easy to follow. I just read A Familiar Dream, and it's really good. https://vocal.media/poets/a-familiar-dream?modal=open

I'm Bee. I specialize in speculative fiction, especially the kind without magic or electricity (same thing?). I also LOVE speculating about sex and gender. Madeline Miller's The Song of Achilles is a similar flavor to what I love to read/write. On Vocal, I love Ashley Lima's The Longest Night. I love their sentence structure and use of names to signal something about the story. https://vocal.media/horror/the-longest-night-er2740z9o

I donโ€™t know if anyone is reading this anymore this week, but it's worth a shot. This is an amazing story by Ashley Lima (she just got second place in the Word Hunt Challenge!) and I can't get over how well written it is. It's horrifying, terrifying, and oh, so poignant. It's surreal, absurdist, and utterly captivating. It taps in to our fears of death, our struggles with identity, and even our concept of time. https://vocal.media/horror/nothing-5o1ec0afu I recently added it to the Discord TS Nominations thread because I love it that much. Go check it out!!

  • Doc Sherwood11 months ago

Alex H Mittelman first crossed my path when he very kindly posted a like and comment on a particularly quirky story of mine, one which I'd had real doubts would ever attract any positivity at all. Since then I've come to greatly enjoy the wide range of Alex's own works, and one I particularly loved was "Satan, Sick of Summons," a devilish little sketch which I think was Alex's first submission to the new Humour community. Whilst very much a comedy, it's written from a most informed and knowing standpoint, abounding with learned little nods to Milton, Marlowe and Meredith. Alex has duly added a content warning to reflect the subject matter, but I'd recommend this piece to anyone who enjoys a good old irreverent laugh! You can read "Satan, Sick of Summons" at the link below. https://vocal.media/humor/satan-sick-of-summons

Hey I'm Rebekah, I write poems, articles and fiction and I'm really enjoying taking part in Vocal's challenges lately. I stumbled upon Rosie Ford's profile today on the Discord server and was blown away. Her writing is so original I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Duality". You'll never guess the twists and turns! https://vocal.media/authors/rosie-ford I also loved R.C Taylor's tragic piece "Isolation", which captures the awful reality of abuse so well. Such a moving read, I can only thank them for being so vulnerable. https://vocal.media/fiction/isolation-axx00ik9?fbclid=IwAR0iN7g7ZSX1nGWsYPmW4Iyzl9aZIsb0I3cFn5QIQZsxhs5tyH-I6lrAceg Loving reading everyone's amazing work! <3

  • R.C. Taylor11 months ago

Hi, I'm R.C. Taylor. I am a poet and occasional fiction writer. I cannot say enough good things about Muchtar Suryawan. Without a doubt one of my favorite creators on Vocal. She is an amazing poet https://vocal.media/poets/escapism-s2b0alg and an amazing fiction writer https://vocal.media/fiction/the-day-after-4v2lm0xn4 She definitely deserves more praise and more spotlight! If I had control of Top Stories she'd have multiple.

  • Novel Allen11 months ago

Hello, Novel here, creator amidst the Vocal flower garden. I found two dark pieces that I liked. https://vocal.media/poets/next-time-your-heart-breaks, Rebekah Sian Crawley, and https://vocal.media/art/dreams-of-the-scream by Willaim St Val. These pieces encourage us to rage against the storm and come out on the other side, refreshed and renewed.

  • C. H. Richard11 months ago

Also, I would love to see this story as Top story from Rick Henry. It is such a cool idea as he paired beautiful digital art with Jazz musicians. Even though the Playlist challenge has ended this story deserves more eyes on it. โค๏ธ https://vocal.media/beat/rick-henry-christopher-s-jazz-art

  • Hi Mike from The Vocal Social Society on Facebook, come and check us out if you are not a member. Here are five pieces I believe are worthy of Top Stories A poem by Eric Montgomery https://vocal.media/poets/devil-in-disguise A micro-fiction from Andrei Z.https://vocal.media/fiction/azulejo A take on The Titanic by Lena Borondia https://vocal.media/art/ghosts-vr90iid A story taking on Time from Matthew Fromm https://vocal.media/fiction/ubm And an absolute beauty from Rosie J. Sargent https://vocal.media/art/the-lady-of-shalott

I know I am late for this thread today but wanted to share this poem by Adrianna Wing that to me felt embodies the struggle of long distant or forbidden love https://vocal.media/poets/into-your-arms

  • Mother Combs11 months ago

Hello, Mother Combs here. I don't normally do this, so I'm just going to jump right in. I have a writer I'd like to recommend, not just for his stories but for himself. Don't get me wrong, all the stories I've read of his so far are wonderful. What I think stands out about him the most is the fact that as good of a writer as he is, he takes the time to always nominate other writers to your attention, plus he always gives a well-thought-out comment on any story he reads and likes. This writer is so unselfish, he takes the time to actually read others' stories. So, I'd like to nominate Doc Sherwood, https://vocal.media/authors/doc-sherwood , who is a one-of-a-kind author. He needs a special award for his generosity.

  • A. Lenae11 months ago

Hi, I'm A. Lenae, writing and leaning into a strange fiction space at the moment and loving it. Often including skin tags in my stories because they provide nice memories. I stumbled upon this incredible piece (also 2 years old) about the author's mom. It does what a poem should do - completely unravel the reader and expose the author in this organic and rich way. L's exploration of language is stunning and deserves more eyes. https://vocal.media/poets/the-spectrum-of-mom

  • Mackenzie Davis11 months ago

Hey guys! This week, I came across Mesh Toraskar, an amazingly talented writer on Vocal. His poetic style is utterly captivating. It captured me in this piece, an essay about his father: https://vocal.media/men/an-equitable-arrangement-with-bittersweet-nostalgia. Stunning writing. But all of his stories so far have been just top notch. Go check out his profile!

  • Donna Renee11 months ago

Hi! Iโ€™m Donna Renee, I love coffee and reading and writing too (well, most of the time haha) ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ please check out this beautiful interview of the one and only Heather by the also one and only Gina C! ๐Ÿฅฐ https://vocal.media/interview/center-stage-special-edition

  • Ian Read11 months ago

Hi everyone! I'm Ian and I write a lot of fiction (fantasy and sci-fi), historical pieces, humor, and some poetry. One poem I read recently that I think deserves more reads is Twilight by S.A. Crawford ( https://vocal.media/poets/twilight-wl3r70uhp ). Any of her work is well worth a read.

  • Andrei Z.11 months ago

Hi everyone! Check out this piece by Stuart Orr. He submitted it in the Beat community but it's a fiction story. But also it reads like music, a rather complex composition with many layers. I think in music theory they call it polyphony. It's pretty incredible! https://vocal.media/beat/song-of-a-distant-star

I'd like to elevate Elaine Sihera, and her story of how she dug into her strength in a very challenging time in her life- and the miraculous results that had lasting results. I was inspired by the story! https://vocal.media/psyche/a-life-improvement-i-made-that-i-wish-i-had-done-sooner

Hello: the first creator and piece I want to bring to your attention is Jade Haumann and her piece 'They Didn't Tell Me. https://vocal.media/families/they-didn-t-tell-me This new writer had a huge impact on me, both with her subject and her craft of writing it.
