"Hey, babe! I'm back."

I dropped my keys into the wooden bowl by the door and threw my purse onto the couch to put up after I had a moment to rest.

"I don't know if you started dinner yet, but I've been craving pizza like you would not believe."

I flicked on the light switch.

Strange. She always keeps the lights on, even when the sun shines through our curtains.

"Babe?"

I was met with silence.

And then I remembered.
