The Single Mothers Survival Guide - A Dreamer In Action
“I recalled John Maxwell saying in Failing Forward, 80% of success is just showing up.” Do you have any dreams or aspirations? Most likely you do. Do you know where your passion lies inside of yourself? It could be possible that you don’t. Many of us don’t. We fall into jobs, get married without thinking things through, and generally accept the circumstances in our life. Think about it now while you are reading this. What makes your heart thump? What gifts were you born with? Do you dare to even hope when you already have enough to do—and all hope seems to do is lead to despair?

Swimming With Wild Dolphins
On January 20, 2009, I wasn't planning on swimming with dolphins. I also wasn't planning on watching Obama's first inauguration in the lobby of the historic Manago Hotel in Captain Cook, Hawaii. I had simply wanted to escape the confines of the land-locked work trade I'd drifted into at South Point, the most southerly point in the entire 50 states. Somehow I, a passionate ocean lover, had found myself without a car, far from the water pulling weeds and painting two-by-fours at a retreat center that could only be accessed by driving through a cow pasture. There was a bull, too, which made walking out to the road even more intimidating.

The Four Ways of Leading
FROM THE 15 COMMITMENTS OF CONSCIOUS LEADERSHIP. (DETHMER, CHAPMAN, WARNER KEMP) When we think about consciousness and unconsciousness we normally think of states of engagement with the world. Consciousness referred to as “the hard problem” in philosophy is defined as our ability to have a sense of self and engage with the world. Unconsciousness is the lack of engagement and responsiveness to other people and the environment. When people are unconscious they lose their awareness of what is happening around them.

Go with your own Flow
I always admire people who make mood boards, so I decided to make one myself. It got slightly awkward when I couldn't quite group and put my finger on all of my goals. I decided to add a car to my mood board. I started searching the few car brands that knew and quickly came to a strange conclusion. I had no emotional attachment to the car. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t mind having one. But it was not something I had been dreaming of. I guess it was just something I thought that would make sense if I wanted it.

The Romance of a Routine
I think I speak for all of us when I say that we quickly realised how we take certain things for granted, after the entire world went into a protective state of quarantine. This experience has been very eye-opening and needless to say, there are so many things that I am looking forward to doing again.

The Passion of being Alive
Isn’t is funny how in a world of so, so many people, everyone is unique in their own way. We are born with different callings and desires. They say as children we know clearly what we want. Sadly, as we grow and become adults, these things somehow drift away from us.

Courage
Brene Brown is one of my favourite humans in the entire world. I mean that. She came into my life via a Netflix special she did called “A Call To Courage.” It was a brilliant talk within which she touched on several different topics, including her trademark dissection of shame, bravery, courage and vulnerability. If you’ve ever listened to her TED Talks, podcast or seen her on Super Soul Sundays on the OWN Network, you’ll know that Brene is extremely funny, incredibly smart, a total academic and a great teacher. There was a line she said in the special (well there were several, really) but this was one that really stood out to me. She was talking about what she had learned after 20 years of research on courage, vulnerability and bravery and she said “if you’re brave with your life, (if) you choose to live in the arena, you’re going to get your assed kicked. You are going to fall, you are going to fail; you are going to know heartbreak. It’s a choice.” She then went on to describe her definition of vulnerability which she says is not about winning or losing. “It’s having the courage to show up when you can’t control the outcome.”

Start
Creating Content is something I wanted to start doing. I thought I needed a story or strategy to start creating anything. I did not have any ideas for what to record, especially during this Pandemic we are all facing. I would write ideas down for skecths, or short films ideas but that would be it. I would mostly think about what I would need, to complete these ideas. While working, towards the end of the day I would forget what I need to complete. It created some anxiety and procrastination but I needed to start somewhere.

Dear Younger Self
In my 26 years on this earth, I have learned many lessons. I've learned how women are in this world. I've learned how loud women are perceived in this world. I've learned how heavy women are perceived in this world. I've learned how genuine women are perceived in this world. I've learned how intelligent and passionate women are perceived in this world. As I was growing up, I was constantly adapting to the room I was in. I never wanted to stand out, fear of judgment controlled by actions.

The keys to my dream house
Ambling up the hill, surrounded by trees that are beginning to drop their red and orange leaves for the autumn, stepping over fallen twigs and mush. The smell of wet earth gliding up my nostrils and the scents of wet plants attaching to my walking boots. I climb over the small rocks, through the trees into a hidden spot. Only I and the person who built it, knows that this exists, this is my home, I have the keys to my dream home fully in my grasp.
