The Other Side of Fear
Hi everybody! My name is Krystal, I am turning 40 this year and up until 2017 my life was, for the most part, everything I had ever wanted and worked for. I had my kids, two young men who are now 20 and 17; my own place, an apartment, but it was perfect for the three of us; my fur babies, two miniature schnauzers and two kitties; my career, a certified veterinary technician for 16 years; my car, nothing fancy, but it was freedom.

Win-Win-Win- How to Kill Writer's Block During A Pandemic.
By Marsha Wilson Rappaport The onset of COVID resulted in weeks of my staring in the mirror with my “deer in the headlights” face. My brain had frozen. My fingers followed suit. What could I possibly say that would uplift others that would combat my personal fears.

Loud As Thunder
Here we go again, it's the game we love. My eyes are pretty heavy from he weight on my heart, yet I have no tears left as I let out a silent cry earlier. Listening to one of my favorite artist's, Jhene Aiko "Speak" and it was like a dagger shot through my chest straight into my very soul that's been aching. Some would call it an "inner cry", which I like that description quite frankly. It's as if the well has ran dry and the blood coursing through my veins came to an halt. Sounds depressing right? It's suppose to when you suddenly come to realize how mummified heart is still fragile.

Never Alone
When I was in grade 6 my friend, Hannah, and I had “special” pens that we would use to “tattoo” ourselves and other kids. These pens were probably just regular pens. I think they were gel pens. I think we had four of them. The plastic was transparent and the same colour as the ink. We thought they were the cats' meow, the bees' knees, and somebody's pajamas.

Looking forward
Each day I learn to navigate this road, this new way of life, new way of thinking and living. Stepping out of my comfort zone, some days leaves me in tears. I have got to quit looking back because forward is where I'm headed and it's better than back ever was.

Finding Peace in Chaos
These times have put the world through the ultimate emotional meat grinder. No one can watch the news without seeing something that hurts, or causes them to sink just a little deeper into the motions of the chaos. How do we find peace, when it’s so hard to look at the world without falling to pieces and asking what’s the point? Why should we find that peace? What’s the point when there’s so much working against us right now?

My Goal
No one is alone on this planet. We all have a place where we belong. There are plenty of places you can reach out to if you feeling overwhelmed or need help. What I want to do with my presence online, is to make an easy place where anyone can come and be a part of a community that is all about love and understanding. No sad headline news articles, no hate or discrimination, just a community of hugs, understanding and advice, as well as the final goal, laughing and loving together. This is my first real attempt at getting my voice out into the world of our technology-based lives. I also want others to feel as if they can do the same thing, despite being shy or being told they can’t do it. (will be discussed in another post.) I want to be able to start the ball rolling on different topics so that people feel more comfortable talking to others about difficult things they are going through. I hope by me giving personal examples that I have faced and that people I know have faced, that everyone will feel encouraged to get out of their shells and reach out for help or just feel more comfortable with themselves. A quote I have always held with me since my first boyfriend told me about has been, “Happiness is like a Butterfly; The more you chase it, the more it will Elude you, but if you turn your Attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your Shoulder.” -Henry David Thoreau.

Elephants
The story of my tattoo... well it started when I was 18, in my graduating year of high school, when I got sick. I got so sick that my doctor had me hospitalized. It was about 3 months living in the hospital until the doctors were able to figure out what was wrong. At that point I was diagnosed with a very rare blood disorder that is a form of cancer.

Tattooed Kiss
Inspired by the words spoken to by your silver tongue, “A stain on my Soul is your tattooed kiss.” My mantra for me is to remember that you still remember me when I am on the other end of the universe from you, in another world, separated by eternity, and have lost all hope. Sound that travels so far and is so small it can only be felt when I am absolutely still and that vibration of love, brings me back to life.

Power to The People
I am no stranger to ink, in fact I have an appointment the first week of October to get my neck done, however this tattoo you’re witnessing is currently my most prolific expression of oppression and the power I've inherited, thus allowing me to break old customs, generational curses and projected programming of thought as it relates to my ancestors, my people and myself. Many people get tattoos for all sorts of reasons. I get tattoos to tell a tale. This tattoo tells a tale of a people of power; a people of royal ancestry who were born with infinite strength, equipped to persevere through unimaginable forms of challenges and insurmountable pain and struggles. I am, and represent those people.
