Magic items in Dungeons and Dragons are meant as magical rewards for adventuring and exploring your campaign. Every D&D campaign is full of great loot placed by your DM, but if you ever have a pile of gold burning a hole in your pocket and are looking for somewhere to put it all, here are some suggestions!

Whether you are a player looking for the best items for your character, or a DM who is looking to tailor the loot in your campaign to the classes your party is playing, here is the perfect list for magical items for Sorcerers in Dungeons and Dragons 5e that every Sorcerer is gonna want to attune to!

Bloodwell Vial

This new item out of Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything is perfect for the goth emo vampire boi who wants to wear a vial of blood as a necklace...no that’s not right, I meant the Sorcerer. The Bloodwell Vial increases the Spell Save DC and Spell Attack bonus of a Sorcerer’s spells by a bonus that increases with the rarity of the item. Get this item as soon as possible to make sure your spells are harder to resist, it’s a no brainer. In addition to this, you can regain 5 sorcery points during a short rest, which makes you a little more flexible during the adventuring day.

Illusionist’s Bracers

Now I’m not saying that whoever made Eberron is some kind of crazed magic item lunatic...but they are. However, their saving grace is that they did make this item Very Rare. The Illusionist’s Bracers allow a Sorcerer to cast a Cantrip twice in one turn, using a bonus action to cast the same Cantrip they cast as their action a second time. If somehow you convince your DM to let you get this early on, you’re gonna be crazy cool! And for an extra kicker, you can combine this with the Twin Spell Metamagic to fire off even more Firebolts, or whatever Cantrip you so choose.

Elven Chain

Sorcerers tend to be squishy and have little in the way of Armor Class. Fortunately for most there is Mage Armor, but when you are a Sorcerer you have a very tight spell list, you might not always want to spend one of those precious spells known on Mage Armor. Even more fortunately for you there is Elven Chain. Elven Chain makes the wearer of the armor proficient in it, and provides even more Armor Class than Mage Armor gives anyway. It’s a win win!

Blast Scepter

This bad boy is for the sorcerer who just wants people to leave them alone. The Blast Scepter gives the Sorcerer resistance to fire and lightning damage to keep you nice and safe from other sorcerers and their lightning bolts and fireballs. In addition, it allows you to use Thunderwave as a 4th level spell as an action without using a spell slot, and there is no gosh darn limit. Any time someone gets close to you, you just blast them in the face.

Wand of the War Mage

An all around good item, the Wand of the War Mage increases your spell attack bonus just like the Bloodwell Vial earlier. However, additionally you also get to ignore 1/2 and 3/4 cover. Getting the bonus to your Spell Save DC is far and away the better choice overall, but if you can't find one of those, or cannot convince your DM to sneak a Bloodwell Vial into the next pile of loot, consider going for one of these wands instead.

Wand of Fireballs

I mean this magic item is useful for anyone really, but if you are sitting in the bag blowing up friends and enemies alike, what’s the harm in having an extra bunch of fireballs in your pocket to save your spell slots for something else.

Spell Gem/Ring of Spell Storing

Both of these items simply help you prepare for adventures in the future. Like most spellcasters you have a limited number of spell slots on any given day. Unlike other spellcasters your flexible casting allows you a little more leeway in what kinds of spells you cast and at what level. A Spell Gem or Ring of Spell Storing gives you even more leeway by tucking a few extra spells away in advance.

Staff of Power

This is the holy grail for most casters, this big staff is full of spells like Cone of Cold (5 charges), Fireball (5th-level version, 5 charges), Globe of Invulnerability (6 charges), Hold Monster (5 charges), Levitate (2 charges). Lightning Bolt (5th-level version, 5 charges), Magic Missile (1 charge), Ray of Enfeeblement (1 charge), or Wall of Force (5 charges). The Staff holds 20 charges total, so it can really pack a punch when you want it to. In addition it regains a truly ridiculous number each morning, so you don’t even have to try to save these. There’s a good reason this staff is Very Rare, but it probably should be Legendary, just don’t tell your DM that.

So there you have it, a short, and certainly not comprehensive list of magic items that every Sorcerer should be on the lookout for! Go forth and spend your gold with a little more insight on what might help you going forward!
