Magic items in Dungeons and Dragons are meant as magical rewards for adventuring and exploring your campaign. Every D&D campaign is full of great loot placed by your DM, but if you ever have a pile of gold burning a hole in your pocket and are looking for somewhere to put it all, here are some suggestions!

Whether you are a player looking for the best items for your character, or a DM who is looking to tailor the loot in your campaign to the classes your party is playing, here is the perfect list for the coolest magical items for Barbarians in Dungeons and Dragons 5e that every Barbarian is gonna want to attune to!

Winged Boots

I throw this one right at the top of this list because the only thing scarier than Conan the Barbarian hacking you to pieces with his Greataxe is a FLYING CONAN! The most notable and perhaps biggest weakness of the Barbarian (Other than psychic damage) is the fact that they have very little ranged versatility. Due to this small constraint on your ability to pulverize enemies to a pulp, I enter to you, the Winged Boots! Even better, these boots are only an uncommon item, which means in most campaigns you’ll be able to pick them up very easily. No longer are winged creatures the bane of your existence.

Ring of Psychic Resistance

Speaking of psychic damage, the Ring of Psychic Resistance is particularly helpful to any barbarian, but particularly to the Bear Totem. This little ring solves your one weak point, making you resistant to every damage type. As if you needed to be any more unkillable than you already were.

Cloak of Protection

In a similar vein to the Ring of Psychic Resistance, while Barbarians have solid physical saves, their mental stats tend to be more than a little...lacking. Not to make any sweeping generalizations or anything, but no one really wants their unstoppable killing maching to suddenly become the enemies unstoppable killing machine. The Cloak of Protection increases both your AC and all saving throws, as such, not a bad item to have on your side against those pesky Wisdom Saves.

Manual of Gainful Exercise or Bodily Health

Obviously these items are extremely rare, but also extremely good! One of these items increases your Strength by 2 and the other Constitution by 2. The kicker though, is that these increases can take your total above 20, one of the few items in the game that can do so! If you can get your hands on one of these, they are well worth it!

Animated Shield

Ever wanted to have a shield and still be able to use a Two Handed Weapon? Well this is the shield for you! This magic item is beyond sick, floating around on its own protecting your back, it’s like the perfect sidekick, if all you wanted from a sidekick was a large piece of metal that gives you extra Armor Class... In all seriousness though, this allows you as the Barbarian to focus on what you do best, which is deal a metric ton of damage. It keeps your arms free and gives you that AC bonus most Barbarians are severely lacking since they don’t wear armor with a magical bonus that increases over time.

Belt of Giant Strength (Any Kind)

The Belts of Giant Strength take your Strength to well....Giant levels. These belts range from the 20 Strength cap for Hill Giant all the way to 30 if you can get your hands on the Storm Giant belt. Of course that is a legendary item, so you’ll be hard pressed to get your hands on one, but nevertheless, if it’s an option there is no better item in the game.

Mantle of Spell Resistance

Once again, this item is purely for the betterment of your own defenses against the enemy. The Mantle of Spell Resistance straight up gives you advantage on saving throws against spells. Something that the Barbarian greatly needs. Mathematically that’s essentially a +3 bonus on all your saving throws against charms, domination effects and the occasional Banishment or Polymorph spell. Lucky you!

Cape of the Mountebank

Capping off this list, this cloak lets you use Dimension Door. Similarly to the Winged Boots, this lets you close the distance against a ranged foe nearly instantly, and since Dimension Door has a range of 500 feet, and can even let you take someone with you, this could either get you and another melee attacker to an annoying boss, help you cut off an enemies escape, or even allow you to grab a downed enemy surrounded by monsters and get them the hell out of dodge. Either way, this item is far more invaluable than it might immediately appear!
