Why you'll never crave a carrot. (but you could always eat a pizza).
Once upon a time, we humans ate food to sustain ourselves. You see, we are pretty amazing. We have sophisticated systems to enable us to perform our most essential task; find food for fuel. Our taste abilities have been shaped by the ecological niches our evolutionary ancestors occupied and by the nutrients they sought. They helped us to identify nutrients to survive.
Vegan Cinnamon Babka
Besides it being fun to say, Babka is one of the best things ever invented. Most people think of inventions from the 1800's and their mind goes to the cotton gin, or light bulbs. And while Eli Whitney and Thomas Edison do deserve their accolades, the true unsung hero of the 1800's-- the housewives!!
I made Dominique Ansel's Cronuts at Home.
If you don't know who Dominique Ansel is perhaps you've heard of the Cronut. If you haven't heard of the Cronut, prepare to have your mind blown. Imagine a croissant. Flaky, crispy, tender, crumbs falling when you bite into it. Now, picture that in the shape of a donut. It's a circle, with a smaller circle inside cut out. Now, the best part is, this croissant/donut was actually deep fried. Just like an actual donut is instead of baked like a croissant.
Alyssa RoselloPublished 4 years ago in FeastMarvel's Market
I don't know a lot about baking and I've never made donuts myself, but I'd say I'm a pretty good judge of a good donut. Let's be honest, it's not that hard to be. What is hard is to score higher on my personal donut meter than a Marvel's Market donut.
Queenside Story
The first thing I learned about Jim was that he was obsessed with games, specifically chess. I’d met him through a mutual friend at a games night hosted at Jim’s house. We played Dungeons and Dragons over champagne and pickles while Jim narrated a story of mythical creatures and marvellous missions in outrageous role-playing style.
Joel LudemannPublished 4 years ago in FeastA Little Piece of Vegan Heaven: Clementine Bakery
I moved to Brooklyn just over 3 years ago, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that I go to Clementine maybe three times a week—every week. This tiny bakery near my apartment in Clinton Hill has become my neighborhood staple. I never expected to find "my neighborhood spot" so soon after moving to the area, but it truly was love at first bite (you'll have to try their wraps—or anything really, to understand what I mean!)
The Post-COVID-19 Business World - Part 2: Restaurants
NOTE: In the first article in this series (The Post-COVID-19 Business World — Part 1: Overview), we sketched out the very changed world that all of us are living through presently as we cope, both individually and as a society, to the COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic. We set the stage for examining how the business world in general will change in what will be the post-pandemic environment to come (and yes, it will!). We believe that it is critical that companies across the board, from the largest corporations to small, local businesses develop strategies to succeed in the post-pandemic environment.
David WyldPublished 4 years ago in FeastRecipes That Make Your Groceries Go Further
Grocery budgets can be stressful , but I think they are especially stressful in the event of a emergency. My hope is by putting together this article it helps couples and families make their groceries go further instead of a protein only making one dinner helping it make 2 ,3 or 4 dinners. I also plan to write a seperate article that is full of meal suggestions for vegetarian meals.
Misha AlslebenPublished 4 years ago in FeastWhat The Flip!
He has been told by a former employee that Gordon Ramsay has nothing on him. He has been known to use some slightly dodgy methods to further the cause of a suburban market, but “What The Flip’s” owner and operator, Islam, is a warm, intelligent and empathetic human being with nothing but the community’s best interests at heart.
7 drinks, 7 days: caffeine edition
No one asked me to do this. I didn’t need to do it for any specific reason, except I was preparing to be in my house for a long, indeterminable amount of time and decided to make it interesting. I tried these 7 energy drinks over the course of the last 7 days. I’ve never had any of them before this, so here are my first impressions of each, along with a rating out of 10. Enjoy!
Alyson LewisPublished 4 years ago in FeastHow to bake away the pain of being a bad person: Bread
I stand before you Brothers and Sisters, a bloated, Gluten enthusiast. Here to preach the good word of bread. I know it gets a bad rap, being blamed for our weight gain when it is in fact, our [read: my] self-control and not the loaves that stop us from being thin. In this day and age, it gets treated like a wheaten representation of the devil himself, being spat on by those with both faux and real gluten intolerances. Gross, thin, healthy-looking people make bread alternatives under the guise of “health” but really when I look at these Frankensteins monsters made of nuts and seeds I see it's true intention: HORRENDOUS TORTURE.
Roc TraversPublished 4 years ago in FeastPineapple on Pizza
We all have different tastes in everything. Most of us accept that some people will like things we don't or dislike things we enjoy. It's a normal part of life. There are, however, certain bones of contention in the foodie world. You might say that certain foods or combinations are 'Marmite'. That is to say you either you love them or hate them. Of course, there are probably a few strange people who 'don't mind' Marmite, could 'take it or leave it' but I can honestly say I've never met anyone that crazy.
