The Lonely Highway
" Kid, I remember that night like it was this morning ; My trucks engine roar grew quieter leaving only the crickets outside to keep me company as I came to a stop on the offramp on 86. I sighed looking at the dark night sky, miles of lonely highway before me. I hated stopping at night but a violation could cause me to lose my job or at the very least a very expensive ticket.

Stolas
Firsts. We all have them , first sleepovers , first dances, first kisses, first loves. Well this was my first , of many. My first camping trip , better yet my first unsupervised camping trip WITH friends . Not just any camping trip though, the seniors trip. Not a place I ever imagined myself being. Then again I never expected Mai Westerly to approach me in the middle of the school lunchroom to invite me either. I still hadn't decided if they just wanted more people to here party or if this wwas some sick joke, but it got me out of the house and away from my abusive step-father so I wasn't complaining. Gripping my bag I reached up grabbing Jason the schools start quarterback outstretched hand. The sun had set nearly a hour ago , going off our dying flashlights and moonlight it was a relief to finally reach the top of the mountain so we could pitch tents, eat around the fire and have a good night. The forest was full of life even at night, frogs croaked from nearby streams of mountain run off water while crickets happily chirped and claws scrurried up trees either in search of food or refuge from the warm yet crisp night air. The dark swallowed everything nearby and while a fire had been built it wasn't enough to light up past the tents edges. The stars stretched infinitely joining the moon in eliminating our campsite and the landscape below in the canyon we had just treked through.

Smokey Night
“Val you’ve got this” My friend Nikki spit out ending a rant that had gone on much too long. “Nikki I know you think that out of anyone. I am the most deserving of this, but seriously I don’t think that going out for drinks with someone is the best thing for me right now.”

Grimm In Love,
I watched as tears rolled down my face while the graveyard emptied from the funeral happening a few plots over. Sitting down beside her freshly dug grave felt weird. It had been 3 weeks and she still felt like I lost her yesterday. Feeling the wind pick up as the air got chilly. I looked up to see a hooded black figure, blinking my eyes I assumed they were clouded with tears. That was until it moved closer and closer, before standing just on the other side of the headstone I sat in front of. I blinked watching as he brought a sithe out of his cloak. Gasping I sprung up and walked backward a few steps.

Sapphire Siren
“Lillian, I don’t know if this will work, or if it’s a good idea. ” ” Finnegan is right Lillian you could get hurt” I looked between them as Finnegan and Kipper gave their input. Finnegan‘s massive body looked small compared to the wrecked ship we were swimming near. While Kipper’s bright orange body made him stand out, he looked like a small sardine in size with his tail curled neatly as he floated next to Finnegan. I swam in circles, admiring my sapphire blue tail as I swam gracefully and thought about the issues we were facing.

Baker Street
Prisms hung in my living room, the light shining through refracting rainbows onto the wall. The beautiful patterns instantly brought me back to the childhood summer. The one that not only changed my life forever but gave me a new appreciation for life and the things that some take for granted. Thoughts of Mr.Pendleton always made me smile as I watched the prisms dance on the wall. Returning to the recipe box in front of me I looked down. Carefully thumbing through the recipes inside, the neat handwriting on each card bringing me back even further to that summer.
