Education and Suicides

From birth, human beings have to overcome various adversities to reach their desired goal. Happiness and sorrow seem to be an inviolable destiny in human life. Just as no one suffers in the continuum of life, so no one sees the face of happiness. It is difficult to find a person in the world who has no sorrow, no pain, no pain.

Whatever we do, there is hope or lack behind it and it is a lifelong process. All hopes or shortcomings are not met at the same time or remain unfulfilled. For example, failure to achieve something in the hope of achieving it, the pain or grief of untimely death of a loved one, including parents, the heartache of not being able to get close to the person you love, frustration with education, frustration with not getting a job even after getting higher education, debt burden increases, family complications, relationship deterioration, financial crisis, harassment of girls, minor reprimands from parents, abuse of women, dowry, rape and blackmail or suicidal tendencies are on the rise. This tendency of suicide on the one hand is exposing our social problems, it is worrying the family, society and the state.

Every year after the publication of the results of 10th or 12th boards, SSC, HSC, UPSC, NEET and even JSC, PSC, some horrible and frustrating news of suicide surfaced in the news media. These failed students seem to have committed suicide by failing to match expectations and receipts. Apparently that is an easy solution for them in the way of a friend. One of the main reasons for committing suicide in adolescence is failing in exams, fear for studies, sometimes not being able to achieve 90% marks. And one of the main reasons for this is that our parents and teachers not only teach us to succeed in life but do not teach us how to succeed from failure or they do not know that education.

Life is an endless stream of success and failure. Failing the test does not mean ending, but realizing life anew. If we could give this education to families and schools, we would not have to lose fresh lives year. Who knows, maybe one of them could lead us in the future. I am an optimistic person so I dream of this. I will tell those who want to commit suicide by failing the exam, it is just stupidity. I want to remind them of the names of some people who are not very good at studying and have led the world, going. I want to put Steves Jobs and Bill Gates first on this list of bad students. The list also includes former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, scientist Charles Darwin, our national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and even Einstein.

However, there seems to be a deep connection between this recent time's suicide and the human stress caused by Covid-19. Because children, teenagers and young people were already upset because of home arrest for a long time, away from the playground etc. According to a World Vision survey, 91% of children and adolescents suffered from stress and anxiety due to corona virus infection. Disruption of educational activities, increasing social stress with distance, sudden loss of parents due to unemployment or the virus, these youngsters were already upset.

However, according to experts, our parents and teachers are most responsible for suicides. On the one hand, boys and girls at this age are prone to emotions, again parents comparing the results of their own child with the good results of other students, etc., leads them to a difficult path like suicide.

Moreover, in today's competitive world, in our society, there is an ingrained notion that to fail for one's child means that ten people around him see the end of his life. Moreover, there is always a competition between own child and the child of the house next door, which puts a lot of pressure on the students and their parents. Our teachers are always teaching us how to get higher marks starting from teaching the guide—books other than school text books like reading Nazrul or Rabindranath's books or some novels are waste of time. Moreover, our teachers always consider the school next door as their competitor and put unexpected pressure on the students to get better results than other schools. Admission to a reputed expensive college in the city depends on good results. Earlier, students were admitted through examinations. As a result, the students could get admission in a good college or school by getting good marks in the admission test without getting the desired result. But at present, to get admission in a reputed school or college in almost all the departmental cities, one has to get A or 99% marks. As a result, many of our children commit suicide even after getting good results for fear of not getting admission in good schools and colleges. Moreover, in our country like in the developed world, no mental health care of students is taken in family or school or college. As a result, many people choose the path of suicide without understanding what to do in an unwanted situation. The government should provide counseling in schools and colleges and to formulate merit based education policy not based on results.
