How To Be An Ally
Every year, LGBTQIA+ events are held in June in honour of Stonewall. As we approach June, it's important to learn how to be inclusive and welcoming during pride month - the one month of the year where the LGBTQIA+ community can be open and celebrated. Or, that's the way it's supposed to be, anyway. Even during pride, a lot of queer youth and adults feel excluded and afraid, especially living in specific communities. As a queer ally, it's important to stand up for your loved ones, and to stand up to those who make us feel threatened or scared.

Bayard Rustin -The Man That History Forgot
He was the man that history forgot. Bayard Rustin, more than any other civil rights hero, lived and operated in the shadows, not because he was a secretly gay man but because he didn't try to disguise who he was.

Hi there! I'm Danny, and I'm pansexual. Growing up, I struggled with a clusterfuck of sexual identities before settling on one that felt like me. As an adult, I've become passionate about acknowledging queer youth and helping them find their way in a world which clearly was not made for us. There's so much out there, and most of it is left unspoken, as if it's sinful or invalid. I want to change this.

Hi there! I'm Danny, and I'm trans non-binary. This means I am not wholly male or female - the gender binaries. If I had to put a label on it, I'd call myself genderflux, but mostly I just use the term enby. The transgender umbrella encompasses many different genders and sexualities, and today, I'll be making a list of different genders, because I always love bringing recognition to the queer community. Many people think sex and gender are the same thing, and use them interchangeably despite them being very different. Sex refers to biological and physiological characteristics, such as chromosomes, genitalia, and hormones. Gender, on the other hand, is an identity, a personal sense of self. There are more than sixty recognized genders within the queer community, and three sexes: because, yes, intersex people exist.

Saying gay so that others don’t ever have to feel like they have to conform to who society tells them they “should be”. "We sip the poison our minds pour for us and wonder why we feel so sick." -Atticus
Gender is Cumbersome, But it Keeps me Safe
Hey, my name is Danny. I'm 27 years old and non-binary: not a man nor a woman. Just a person, or an alien attempting to fit in with the rest of the persons. Honestly, that's what it feels like most days. The problem with society is that everything needs to be labeled, and everything that isn't labeled is considered strange and confusing. I never understood this compulsive need of society to put expectations on things. We label clothing, people, media, objects. When I grew up and became more acquainted with life, I realized this need for labels stemmed from the need for control. As a species, we're often scared of things we don't understand. We feel threatened by them, and hesitant to have an opinion. But instead of trying to learn, we stick to what we know, and blame everything else for causing us confusion.

Coming Out
In honor of Pride month, this is my coming out. Hi, my name is Sara and I am Gender Fluid and Pansexual. Basically this means I go by any pronouns (but I prefer they/them) and some days I feel like a woman and others I have no gender or feel like a guy. It is usually no gender but I feel exceptionally like a woman or guy other days. Pansexual means I like everyone, gender doesn't matter to me. I think there is a deep power in finding who you are, accepting who you are and running with it.

Hey mum... I’ve never told you this. I know that I still could. It’s not like I don’t have your number, or like I can’t just walk 20 minutes down the road and knock on your door. It’s not like you’d be mad. It’s not like you wouldn’t still give me a hug before I turned to leave.

It's not too much of a stretch to make the claim that people under the transgender umbrella give their gender far more thought than the average cis person. Transgender people spend years and thousands of dollars on adjusting their presentation to match their gender, but gender is something that everybody has so what's up with the backlash towards transgender people lately then? A lot of the reasons cisgender people give for not supporting transgender rights is that they don't understand how it works, they can't fathom someone putting themselves through years of medical work just to feel comfortable in their body and I honestly get it. It can be pretty overwhelming when someone you love comes out as transgender because it may feel sudden or like you suddenly have to change everything you know about that person but I want to try and give another way to look at the concept of "gender" as a whole.
The British Government Fails to Ban Conversion Therapy for Trans People
Conversion therapy is a damaging practice that aims to change or 'cure' a person of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The process involves negative stimulation being attached to thoughts about members of the same sex. One of the more famous examples was Oscar Wilde being sentenced to hard labour after being tried for relationships with men.

Introduction Same-sex marriage, the practice of marriage between two men or between two women. Although same-sex marriage has been regulated through law, religion, and custom in most countries of the world, the legal and social responses have ranged from celebration on the one hand to criminalization on the other.

I hadn’t talked to Mark since our last “date.” Not sure what is going on but did send him a message after the date thanking him, so the ball is in his court. He could be sitting on the text, wondering if it’s worth it. He could be bogged down with work but it’s Sunday. Maybe Nicola and him are trying to come up with a verdict about me. Who knows, but whatever the outcome is, I know we are on different levels. I’m not self-sabotaging something or trying to deflect away from a situation but just what I am feeling.

I haven't had a proper date in years, even Matt couldn't take me on a date. He said it was too hard, pretty much. I even offered to pay for myself. Nope, always had excuses. So, I sucked it up and waited for a miracle that would never eventuated. Waiting for a date would be like watching paint dry. Though, least you would get some sort of satisfactory outcome.
