Finding My Voice
I started writing when I was about ten years old. My grandma bought me a diary for my birthday. I loved writing down what would happen to me throughout my day. Soon, I began to expand to writing songs, poetry, even skits and scripts. In my writing, I found it possible to write everything that was in my head, things that I didn’t feel comfortable speaking out loud.

Tailor Made for You...
Growing up, my vision of what my adult life would look like was similar to that of most young girls. I wanted the large house with a wrap around porch, a farm sink overlooking the back yard and deck, a white picket fence, 2.5 children, a husband that adored me, a successful career, and a propelling, quickening, and stimulating church to be apart of. I'd worked out in my head just how my future husband would propose and that our first dance, after our 6 month engagement, would be to the prophetic words of Jesse Powell's "You". You see, Jesse was prophetic because he had made an entire song about the way my man would love me. My granddaddy would walk me up the aisle and give me away. My mother, sister, and other family members would sit in the front row in tears, simply awestruck by my beauty and my custom made dress. Our daughter would be a scholar, have no attitude with her parents, be active in the church, and practically run the family business after school. Our son would love his mother and father and protect his sister if we weren't in place. He'd take over the family business that my husband and I would start early on and end up marrying at the age of 25, the same girl he met in 10th grade. Our children would eventually move into the houses built alongside the family house they grew up in. We'd all live peacefully and happily. Life would be grand.

My Brush With Death
By Jeffrey Hopkins May 15th- 16th 2017 First, I’d like to preface this story with stating the fact that I am aware that I joke around a lot and for that reason, people may think I don’t take safety anywhere near as seriously as I do. But let me assure you I go through 15 to 30 minutes of safety checking before every kayak trip. I am very aware of the forces of God through nature and how they can change quite quickly. I am always fully aware of everything happening around me just about every second of every trip I make. This applies to my boating as well.

Resolutions
Making resolutions is important for a person who wants to grow and strive to be better. Normally people make good resolutions but, you can make bad ones as well. But the goals people set out for themselves are usually those that aim to help a person accomplish whatever they want to achieve.

'The Sickle'
I was at a point in my life when I felt all was lost. I was addicted to methamphetamines', out of work and about to lose my home. A close friend of mine shared her most coveted book with me and told me to give it a try. The book was called "The Sickle". When I first saw the title I was immediately taken aback by it. Was this religious (I am agnostic), or perhaps some sort of witch craft? Over the next few weeks I read passages at my leisure, not caring that I was reading the chapters out of order. But each time I read from it, I came to the realization that I had randomly landed on a passage that related directly to the way I was feeling at that very moment. The lesson showed me the way out of my own way and always lifted my spirits. Now some may call be gullible or even superstitious for what I am about to tell you. My good friend who was also my next door neighbor was moving so she asked that I return her book. I was so distraught over no longer having a way to continue my learning. Shortly after I returned her copy, I was taking a walk in the desert and there on the ground was a copy of "The Sickle" half covered in dirt. Although it was slightly water damaged and appeared to be well used, it seemed to contain the full book. It was a green leather bound pocket size version just for me. I wondered to myself, was it fate or magic that lead me on that particular path that day.

What I've Been Reading About Codependency
I’ve been reading a book called The New Codependency. Help and Guidance for Today’s Generation. It is a good read from Codependent No More’s Melody Beattie. I’ve come to realize that blocking my mother on What’s App is a good solution as she picks fights on any Internet medium there is as a way to substitute picking fights in person. I realize through this book that I have to set boundaries by saying that I have to be treated a certain way or that person will not get communicated with. I will not tolerate being made to fight with this person for fun. It causes me stress, anxiety, and many a mental health problem blow out. I would go as far as to say that getting into a fight with someone triggers mania. Not even explaining that via a doctor’s note will sway my mother. Although I have contemplated getting my doctors to write letters to her, from primary care all the way down the list. I have tried time and again to set boundaries with my mother for goodness sake but nothing works.

WWJD
It was 1995, and I was 5 years old. Wednesday nights at eight o’clock were reserved for my dad and I to watch Star Trek: Voyager together. This is the only memory I can recall of ever spending much time with my father growing up. The hour-long science fiction series transported me to other worlds and inspired me to dream of bigger, better things.

Balance
Supposedly 66% of Americans do not believe they have a good work life balance and frankly businesses aren't helping, unlike France who encourages employees to disconnect digitally from work and gives 25 mandatory vacation days a year. Most working class americans are working long hours, weekends, and holidays, not too mention making minimum wage.
