A little carelessness towards breast hygiene and its health during breastfeeding can be harmful for both you and your baby. Be aware and give a proper care to your breast.

The journey of breastfeeding is beautiful. Mother's milk is very important for the growth of the child. Breast milk contains many essential nutrients, which you cannot get from the boxed milk available in the market. It is mandatory for a new-born child to get the mother's milk for at least 6 months. During this, along with taking care of the time of feeding the baby, it is also very important to take care of the cleanliness of your breast. A little carelessness towards hygiene can be harmful for both you and your baby. Pay special attention to breast hygiene to give proper benefits of breastfeeding to the baby. Because your ill health directly affects the health of the child.

Health Shots spoke to Obstetrician and Gynecologist Dr. Neeraj Sharma on this topic. He has advised to pay special attention to breast health and hygiene during breastfeeding. So, let's know from the expert, how to take care of your breast.

Do these measures in case of swelling

According to Dr. Neeraj Sharma, during breastfeeding, many women experience pain in the breast and the problem of swelling is also seen. If it is left like this, then this problem can put you in big trouble. There are some easy and effective home remedies available that will help you get rid of it.

Try these:

Take a clean cotton cloth, dip it in hot water, and compress it by squeezing out the water. Do this at least once everyday. If you are not able to do it every day, then it is necessary to take a gap of one day and do breast training. If you have pain and swelling, it will help you get instant relief from it. If not, then such a situation will not arise.

During breast-feeding, many times the baby's teeth and nails get cut near the nipple, in this case antiseptic cream can be used. If the wound is increasing, do not breastfeed the baby for a few days. Your breast is more sensitive during motherhood as compared to other days, so do not use any type of cream without doctor's advice and do not breastfeed without cleaning the breast after applying the cream.

Here are 6 important breast care tips

1. Breastfeeding is good for your breasts too

If sometimes for any reason you are unable to feed your baby, then doctors recommend using a breast pump. Because it is necessary to get the milk out of the breast, otherwise there is a risk of serious problems like cancer along with swelling, pain, and lumps. If you are sick, do not feed your baby breast pumped milk.

2. Don't wear too tight clothes

Doctors say that it is important to choose the right bra during breastfeeding. You should consult a doctor regarding this. At the same time, wear loose-fitting clothes as much as possible. Otherwise there is a danger of affecting the health of the breast because of your designer clothes.

3. Breast pads will be helpful

As soon as you become a mother, breastfeeding becomes a special part of your daily routine. But it is not possible to continue breastfeeding the whole day in the hustle and bustle of household chores and office work. At the same time, doing so is not at all appropriate for the health of the child. Milk keeps coming out of the breast for a few months after becoming a mother.

Due to milk coming out, marks start appearing on the clothes and along with this there is a complaint of irritation and itching. It is very difficult for a working woman to handle it. In such a situation, doctors recommend using breast pads.

Along with using it, the doctor also advises to take some precautions like it is necessary to change it after a reasonable period. Also, after removing it, clean the breast thoroughly with a cotton cloth.

4. Use a damp cloth for cleaning

The doctor says, “While doing regular routine activities, the body sweats, along with this the germs present in the external environment settle on the skin of the body. So it is important to clean your breast thoroughly with a damp cotton cloth before and after breastfeeding.”

This prevents infection-causing bacteria from entering the baby's mouth and is also beneficial for breast health.

5. Pay special attention while bathing

Breasts require special attention if you are breastfeeding. During this, avoid using chemical soaps and other body washes on your breasts while taking a bath. The area around the nipple releases a type of fluid, which is necessary to keep the breast soft.

6. Breast massage is necessary

According to the doctor, after getting a breastfeed, massage the nipple and the skin around it well with 2-4 drops of milk. By doing this, your skin does not get dry and your skin gets adequate nutrition. Breast milk contains many important nutrients, which reduce the growth of germs that cause infection. In such a situation, the possibility of a breast infection remains limited.
