How to Get Yourself into Sports
We've all been there. "Yeah, I'll go to the gym tomorrow" or "it's just that I hate exercise and I eat healthy enough so I'm fine". We give excuses at the thought of sweating or running short of breath. The thing is while eating healthy makes up 80 percent of a good lifestyle, sports and fitness is still 20 percent. Now of course, when we think of "getting fit" we tend to envision ourselves running on some cold Saturday morning, while it's pouring rain outside. But, if there's one thing I've learned from seven years of fitness and finding my way into sports is that running is not the sole thing that can give us that missing 20 percent of health. In fact, when I started exercising I too began jogging. I quickly found how much I hated it. Of course, there will always be those people who adore it and have always loved the idea of a little run to get distressed and others end up liking it after doing it for some time. Still, some of you, just like me, simply can't stand it, even if it becomes a daily thing. It's like working in an office, there will always be people who like it and find a monotone routine exciting in some ways, but others, while like the idea of earning an income from a nine to five job, don't really like spending their time in front of a screen, sitting down for hours.

Hello, lovelies! So a lot of people have asked me personally why I started taking weight loss and nutrition seriously the past couple of months. So I'm writing this post to answer those questions and give a little insight as to why I kicked into high gear.

I hate cardio. I’m only three posts in, and I’ve already said I hate cardio in more than one post. It’s not my thing. Never has been, never will be. You want me to run a mile? Kiss my ass. Walk a mile? If we’re talking like… walk to a restaurant or the nearest McDonald’s, then sure. Clearly that would defeat the purpose so you’re 99.9 percent never going to see me do cardio. On the off chance that you catch me doing cardio that 0.1 percent of the time, I’m probably doing like 5 minutes of HIIT intervals on a treadmill. Or going really slowly on a StairMaster.

Short Term and Long Term Benefits of Yoga
I've never been the biggest in fitness activities. From a very young age, I knew sports would never come naturally to me and hand-eye coordination was impossible. I did practice ballet for several years and, while I loved it, I still lacked a certain grace that others in my class had. Now I consider myself a sports admirer; I'll try anything once but I'll fail miserably and have that be the last. One 'sport' that I have fallen for (in a good way) is yoga.

If you are reading this, you're probably expecting that I'm a fitness instructor that will give instructions on how to do yoga. FYI, I am not. I am barely a "young grasshopper" when it comes to this stuff. If anything I'm just grass waving in the wind (I certainly look like it in some yoga poses). But I would like to let you in on a little journey I've been having.

It seems like the world is only focused on one thing: looks. I never was interested in working out or how I looked in the clothes I wore. At this time I was 19, going out every night, drinking every weekend. I really only got into fitness because of an ex. I began going to the gym just to do something during the day. After about a week of my free trial, I ended up just going alone. I looked around the gym while I was working out and noticed this woman. She must have been in her late 20s but oh my goodness. She looked perfect. Her body was skinny yet muscular, if you can imagine a little more buffer than most guys. I wanted to be just like her. I did so much research on workouts, supplements I should take. Eight months later, I was just about her size, everyone knew who I was, and I was at the gym for at least two hours a day, six days a week.
Vacation and Weight Management
I recently went on vacation with my family and I managed to not gain a single pound. Sure, if I went to the Olympic training center, this would not be much of a feat; however, we went to Michigan. Additionally, we ate out one to two times a day for 7 days. And still, I did not gain a pound. We ate ice cream, we ate pizza, we ate burgers, we drank drinks. I did not have a lot of water nor did I sleep very well. From eating habits alone, it seems like I should have gained 10 pounds!

I've found someone who understands the reasons a sensitive dad is the father every son needs, gets the questions no dad should ask his stay-at-home-partner, and knows the things women are expected to do at work but shouldn't. His name is Devon Thomas.

I know first hand just how difficult it is to lose weight and feel great! I have faced depression more times than I care to admit, and needless to say, the struggle is beyond real when it comes to the weight gain weight loss life yo-yo! The best advice I heard one day was: “Strive for progress not perfection! Don't give up!! Slow progress is good progress!” Those words hit me and it slapped me so hard in the face that it woke me right up!! It was the wake up call I was needing all my life! It made me feel like I wasn’t alone on this journey, that someone out there understood my pain and that it’s OK to have trouble and go slowly! The whole fitness journey the world is raving about is very intimidating, especially if you have tried so many times and failed each time. After having a baby, I gained a lot of extra weight. I don’t know what I was thinking but one thing is for sure, I thought it would all just magically disappear after the baby was born. To my surprise, I looked great after the baby’s birth but it was the next few weeks that really did it to me. As I recovered from my c-section, working out was not allowed and the food train I was on during pregnancy was still very much in motion! I wasn’t controlling my food intake and a combination of that, taking care of the baby and resting as much as possible, took me on a road that I never want to travel again! I gained 80 pounds and I was simply not myself! Depression took over and I became a hermit. I didn’t come out of my shell until I had no other choice. My body hurt so bad all over and the baby was growing so fast and began to crawl. I was mortified with myself the moment I said, “Aww man, she’s crawling! Now I have to get up and go after her!” I quickly realized what a horrible thing it was to say that, and it was then that my world changed! THAT was my turning point! I started to work out and slowly but surely, I got real serious! It took me about a year, but I did it!! Not only did I lose weight, but I lost more than I thought I even could!
Elizabeth VincentyPublished 6 years ago in LongevityThinking of Running a Half Marathon?
Thinking of running a half marathon? Great! There is no better feeling than seeing the finish line and then crossing it. Trust me, I've run over thirty half marathons, and crossing that finish line is the best feeling. But getting there takes a lot of work and dedication. The first step is easy. It's the steps that follow that are the most difficult.

As you can tell by the photo, I love lifting heavy! It is simply what I enjoy. How is it the most beneficial way to workout? Is it superior or inferior? Am I wasting my time? Damaging my body? Well, the answer may be more anti-climatic then you'd hope for.
