This pilot starts with cartoon characters. Our main protagonist, Gina Beckett, is a quiet office worker who is very tired, both of her lonely home life and her fellow office workers, who think that quality comedy only consists of farts and gross-out humor. She is so tired that she barely notices everything breaking down around her, or the slight tremors she feels underneath her feet. Then one day, the worker sitting next to her computer, Angelo Samaras, takes one of his shoes off and shoves his foot in her face, asking her if it smells bad. The smell instantly knocks her out and gives her an out-of-body experience.

Seeing herself floating above her body, Gina thinks that she is dead and as a result, starts freaking out. Then, despite her efforts to swim downwards in the air, she floats through the ceiling, and to her surprise, finds herself in a live-action conference room. Once she forces herself to calm down (she is still floating and no one can see or hear her. Not even when she waves her ghostlike hand through their heads), she sees that these people are worried because the comedy show they are working on has very bad ratings. Not only that, if nothing is done soon, they will be forced to cancel the show, which they made to be a parody love-child of two shows called The Office and Family Guy.

Then the apparent director of the show, moves to the side, revealing a whiteboard with the show title, Our Office Family, written at the top in big red letters. And below the title, were a lot of pictures of Angelo, mostly taken in the office. That’s when the truth hits Gina.

She, Gina Beckett, is a character in an animated T.V. show that was about to get canceled. And not only that, she isn’t even the main character. Angelo, her gross, oblivious coworker who carelessly ‘killed’ her, is.

Gina’s control over her anger finally snaps, causing her to yell so hard that she didn’t feel herself rapidly sink through the floor and right back into her body. Once back, she gasps for air so loudly that Angelo asks her to keep it down. Gina apologizes out of instinct and as she sits up on the floor, and looks around, wondering if it had been a dream.

Then suddenly, one of her coworkers, a beautiful and flirtatious woman named Aurora, yelps because her computer, something she just got yesterday, just sparked and broke down. It is then that Gina realizes that she hadn’t been dreaming. That the reason why the computer and the other things in her life were breaking down was because the show, her world, is ending.

And as if to make her point, the earth beneath her shook slightly, much like a foreshock before the actual big earthquake.

Gina knew she had to do something, but what? She didn’t think she was particularly funny. There is also the fact that she didn’t know what people in the live-action world will find hilarious. Just then, she saw Angelo’s face scrunch up like he does when he is about to sneeze. And to make matters worse, he is facing her.

Desperate not to get sneezed on today, Gina quickly stands up and grabs the small portable fan on her desk. Without missing a beat, she turns it on high and directs it at Angelo.

Angelo sneezes right at the fan and as a result, the air blows his snot right back at his face before knocking him onto the ground.

As Angelo angrily wiped his face, Gina looked down at the fan, surprised that not only had it perfectly protected her, but it also made her coworker fall out of his chair. She suddenly has the thought that since her world is an animated show, then perhaps the law of physics is more lax here.

Suddenly, she hears Aurora cheer for joy. Gina turns her head and sees that Aurora’s computer is working again.

The live-action audience liked that. They like slapstick comedy. Gina thinks she can deal with that.

Angelo then stands up and declares that he’s going home like the man-child that he is before stomping off. However, when he gets home, he finds Gina waiting for him by the door. When she cheerfully tells him that they were going to spend more time together from now on, he screams. And that is the end of the pilot.
