What is Fika? A simple guide to this Swedish coffee ritual
The best solutions will be found through loving thoughts and perhaps a good cup of coffee. - Jen Vondenbrink Sometimes even the finest translators come up against words that defy translation. While we try our best, some translations can never quite match the significance and sentiment captured by a foreign culture. For instance, Google translate will tell you quite succinctly that fika is the Swedish translation of ‘have coffee’, but in truth this little four-letter word describes a ritual, an experience, an attitude and a state-of-mind that above all cherishes human connection.

Pantry 911! I ordered five bananas and my shopper brought me five bunches. What do I do with them?? Pantry 911! Does anyone know what might fix this chili? It's not terrible, but I just don't feel like eating it. It's boring.
One-Bowl Rhubarb Crisp
Growing up in the rural Midwest, my family grew a lot of vegetables. Our garden, neat rows that easily spanned a quarter-acre, grew everything from tomatoes and potatoes to trellised grapes and row upon row of the sweetest corn imaginable. It was a lot of work, and as a kid, I’m not sure I appreciated many of the things my mother lovingly grew (and we begrudgingly weeded and harvested!).

Talia DevoraPublished 3 years ago in FeastGoing Vegan, then Going Back
I was thirteen when my mother put our family on a vegetarian diet for a month as “a challenge”. To this day, I don’t really know what prompted her to make this choice. If I had to guess, it would be a combination of the new health books she had been reading and the sheer cost of meat when feeding hungry mouths.
"Crazy" Not To Love.
Living in Bremerton, WA you get at least six months of a rainy grey filter on your life. In spring, when the sun finally breaks through the clouds to warm your skin it is magical. All you want to do is spend time outside. The streets, and trails, are suddenly littered with people ready to take on the PNW outdoor lifestyle. People walking, riding their bikes, hanging out with their furry pals, and people eating. There are, admittedly, tons of “mom and pop” local places around town to grab a bite while you are out. Although, none like Crazy Eric’s hamburgers.

It is the job of food photographers to make their photos look good. They can make their pictures look perfect by using some tricks of their trade. It is completely legal to do so because they are advertising the food with the picture and not the meal itself.

I mean there’s nothing better than a home cooked meal at the end of the day, right? Ok, maybe a home cooked meal AND a bottle of wine.
Alana HosnPublished 3 years ago in Feast Tonight, I'll Be Eating Ramen Because I Spent $6033.38 on Uber Eats Last Year
Yes, you read the title right. In the span of 12 months (March 2020 - March 2021), I somehow managed to rack up a $6033.38 Uber Eats bill. Before lockdown, I'd already had the app downloaded on my phone but only used it sparingly - once or twice a month at best. However, with the onset of the pandemic, my spending on food delivery went from bimonthly to every single day. It didn't help that Uber Eats' "Tonight I'll Be Eating" ads flooded my social media algorithm. You know the ones I'm talking about.
