Say It Again Challenge Winners

A behind-the-scenes glimpse at the Vocal Curation Team's top picks from Say It Again.

By Vocal Curation TeamPublished 2 months ago • Updated 2 months ago • 2 min read

Looking across the shortlist, one of the things that really stands out was how rarely the repeated lines stayed put. They started as excuses, clichés, reassurances, jokes, or things we say without thinking, then came back a little different.

Say It Again was a lot of fun to read because best entries didn’t just repeat themselves, they took the same words and kept finding something new.

🏆 Winners

Just a Little More to the Left by Sasha Desideri

Sasha Desideri has a lot of fun with “just a little more to the left,” finding a place for it in everything from hanging a picture to sex, selfies, and politics. Somehow, the line means something a little different every time it comes back.

Boys will be Boys by Emily McGuff

Emily McGuff takes the “boys will be boys” excuse and makes it a little harder to swallow every time it comes back.

What Is It They Always Say? by Paul Stewart

Paul Stewart keeps poking holes in the things we say without really thinking about them. By the end, you might think twice about a couple phrases you’ve heard your whole life.

You'll Understand When You're Older by Chel Writes

Chel Writes takes the phrase “You’ll understand when you’re older” to task. Turns out, understanding why something happened doesn’t make it okay.

It's the creators who don't win or place that we should shower 'congrats' upon. by Novel Allen

Well... Novel had some fun with all the feelings that come with not winning, including a few we probably don’t say out loud.
