Living Abroad

Submission to Say It Again Challenge

Honorable Mention in Say It Again Challenge
This poem was prompted because I told a young man I used to live abroad and he asked if I identified as a woman 🤣

I have escaped the tyranny of a dictator.

I ran from orange skin, disregard, and red hats.

I have become what’s called an expat.

I have made a new home here.

—

I am living abroad.

—

I have settled in and sampled cuisine,

rich foods and tasty treats.

My body swells with diabetes and extra weight.

I’ve become so wide I wobble in my gait.

—

I am living abroad.

—

My chest takes the shape of two ripe melons.

I secure them with a woman’s brassiere.

I like it and choose to complete the ensemble.

I no longer identify with the gender assigned.

—

I am living abroad.

———

Writer’s note: this challenge was meant to be a satire so please don’t take this as political or serious 😂. It’s just a sarcastic observation of the world we live in by a standup comedian. I am not expressing any personal opinions, preferences, or politics.
