Why resort to Psychology?

A brief reflection on the role of Psychology applied to quality of life

All humans have something in common, and yet each person is absolutely unique. It's hard for us to remember.

In the coming and going of day to day we surprise ourselves looking at the clock, going up, down, enjoying, doing, working, resting, eating... And there is hardly any space left to perceive ourselves . So much so, that during a single day the emotions follow each other like a roller coaster, going from moments of being very well, doing what "touches" us, to moments of setbacks that can lead us to feel discomfort, anger, sadness and even pain.

Likewise, the laughter of a specific moment, an unexpected encounter, a surprise, a boy or girl or a loved one can lead us to feel joy, carefree and even happiness that feels full and real in just an instant.

And so we spend our lives, living day after day with a goal (or not) ; and each one of us experiences it in his own way, so personal and non-transferable that it is impossible to clone felt emotions. There may be two people who do exactly the same thing in their day, but they do not live it in the same way. Even so, all of us, absolutely each and every one of us human beings, have an end, here, death, which is the known end to this walk along a path full of experiences that we experience and that touch us, that change us, that They complete what they have lived.

Discomfort is part of life

In our walk - everyone is well known and socially accepted - we visit different health professionals; our body deteriorates or suffers circumstances that need attention . And we give it to you.

We go to doctors, for example to a general practitioner to help us deal with unusual pain, to a digestive doctor to see what happens with those daily stomach cramps, to a traumatologist for muscle pain or a fracture in the bones, to a pulmonologist for an infection in the respiratory system, to an oncologist when we know that our body suffers from cancer... and thus the list of health professionals dedicated to the "physical" "body" expands like a wide range, attending and treating diseases that damage our body, that weaken us and make us feel bad.

And what happens when it is our mind that suffers?

What do we do when we can no longer deal with what we are feeling and living "inside"? It is not something that is seen, only one suffers it. That "regret" that goes inside and how we understand it (or not) accompanies us every moment and hurts us . They can be routine circumstances that we go through that are difficult for us to deal with; they can be sudden situations that happen to us and we cannot process; they can be as many things as there are humans in the world, "things" that burden us emotionally, making life heavier, more difficult, darker.

Everything that happens to us has an impact on our body, but also on our mind, affecting our way of thinking, acting, and feeling. There are experiences that we perceive as unbearable that have a direct effect on our way of being, mark us and leave (literally speaking) a mark. These footprints also make us who we are , especially when we can look them in the face and accept them. I am referring not only to the metaphorical traces, but literally to the 'physical' traces in our brain, which, just like in our body, weigh and are noticeable. So much so that they even mark our way of seeing life, of interacting with others, of perceiving the world around us.

The importance of mental health

So accepted is it that the body deteriorates and the brain being a fundamental part of it, even today -although luckily less every day- it is still taboo to take responsibility for what we feel, to admit that it costs us, that we cannot or cannot we want to continue.

It is natural to go through less good times . It is also natural to face situations that we do not look for and they happen, and we do not want to accept. And it is also natural to overwhelm us with moments and circumstances that rob us of balance and peace.

If your body complains over time, your mind, which accompanies it every second, every minute, every hour, every day, every month, every year of your life, from when you open your eyes when you come into this world until you close them to leave him… Your mind hurts too. And when your mind can find peace and quiet living what you live, then your body responds too. We are beings in which duality is symbiotic, a two-way road that needs to be seen.

The role of psychology

There are different specialties in Psychology . As an eye doctor is not specialized to tell you what type of fracture you have in a bone, neither is a psychologist. But there are various specialties, as occurs in medicine, with different techniques, models and structured therapies that have been investigated and show efficacy in different emotional ailments and/or in so-called mental illnesses.

It is wise to go to a qualified professional to open doors to understand and integrate what you are going through, it is your right to look for options that can give you something more to overcome what you are experiencing.
