You never know before!

Everyone knows that psychology is one of the most interesting subjects to study. It exposes us to new and unusual concepts on human behavior, thought processes, and mental processes. In fact, these aspects are so weird and strange that it can be difficult at times to process them. Nevertheless, given that our understanding of the human mind is still in its infancy, there is a lot we do not know about it. Even so, researchers continue to study its many facets in order to understand it better. In this post we’ll explore some of the most bizarre psychological facts available with 10 jaw-dropping examples you won’t believe are true!

# - 1: Boiling eggs from the inside out
For most people, knowing how long to boil an egg is a difficult challenge. But for one man, it became a truly bizarre experience. He’d heard that boiling eggs from the inside out was a quick way to make them easier to peel. So he decided to test the theory. The experiment went horribly wrong, and his water-logged eggs started to expand inside his pan. Panicked, he turned off the heat and tried to lift the pan off the burner. The weight of the soggy mass was too much for him, and the pan tipped over, spilling the uncooked eggs onto the stove and burning him in the process. The man had to be rushed to hospital, where he was treated for second-degree burns. He was later charged with disorderly conduct and the deputy public health director issued a warning: “Boiling eggs from the inside out may sound like a good idea, but it’s actually a very dangerous practice, and not worth the risk.” If this story isn’t enough to put anyone off trying this, it’s probably best to leave the boiling of eggs to the experts.

# - 2: The power of pink
Yes, you read that right! Pink has been shown to be a more effective colour for advertising women’s products. In fact, it is so effective that female-targeted products are priced at, on average, 39% more than products aimed at men. Pink is even used to sell food products, such as salad dressing, ice cream, and potato chips. This is particularly surprising given that pink has traditionally been associated with girls and women, and would seem to be an odd choice for products aimed at men. However, its effectiveness can be explained by the fact that it is commonly used to create a sense of warmth. This is a particularly effective strategy for food products, as it suggests that they are healthy and nutritious. However, the gender of the person buying the product is irrelevant. Even if a man wants to buy a pink product, it will still be effective. This is because he is not buying the colour, but the product. He is particularly likely to buy products that are associated with warmth and are red or pink in colour.

# - 3: We’re all scared of the dark
This might sound like an obvious fact, but you may not have given it a second thought. Humans are afraid of the dark, even though they can see in it better than in broad daylight. Similarly to our fear of the unknown and things that are unfamiliar, this fear is perfectly natural and even necessary. However, the reason we have this fear is perhaps not as obvious as one might expect. It is thought that this fear is a result of our evolution as a species. Our sight deteriorates in the dark, while our other senses are heightened. As a result, we are much better equipped to navigate in the dark than in daylight. This has allowed us to survive when the sun is obscured by clouds or when we are in a cave. The dark has always been a hazardous environment, and we have evolved to be afraid of it. This fear is also why we startle more easily in the dark. We rely on our sight in these situations, but when it is removed, we are left blind and vulnerable. This can result in anything from a jump scare from a sudden noise to an irrational fear of the dark.

# - 4: Shrink-wrapped ham and other vacuumed food oddities
Vacuum packaging is an interesting process. It involves placing food inside a special chamber. This then removes all the air from the chamber and seals the food inside to prevent it from spoiling. The special chamber is then placed under extreme heat and pressure. This causes the air inside it to expand, which then causes the air between the chamber and the food to be sucked out. The result is a vacuum-packed food that can remain fresh for long periods of time. There are many foods that are vacuum packed, including meat, fish, fruits, and vegetables. One of the most unusual examples of vacuum packing is shrink-wrapped ham. This is achieved by placing the ham inside a vacuum chamber and heating it to around 200 degrees Celsius. This causes the ham to shrink and, as a result, it can be conveniently fit into smaller packaging.

# - 5: Expecting to be ripped off can prevent it
This may sound far-fetched, but it has been proven by science. When people expect to be ripped off, they are more likely to be careful and take precautions, like looking for hidden cameras in a store or being more vigilant about their surroundings. This is not just paranoia and is actually a psychological phenomenon known as confirmation bias. While it may be comforting to assume that this is just paranoia, it actually has a tangible effect on people’s behavior. When people expect to be ripped off, they are extra vigilant and this makes it less likely to happen. When they let their guard down, they are much more likely to be caught out and ripped off.

# - 6: Speaking a different language makes us more rational
This is an interesting fact, and one that has been proven by science. When we are in a different language, we are more likely to make rational decisions. This is because our brains are hardwired to automatically translate what we hear into our native language. When we speak a foreign language, this function is not triggered, which means we think more rationally and thoroughly about what we are saying. This is particularly important in decision-making situations, like buying a house, choosing a career, or starting a business. We often make decisions based on how we feel and whether or not they “feel” right. However, this can often lead to irrational and impulsive decisions. By speaking a foreign language, we are less likely to make these rash decisions. We are also more likely to get valuable input and advice, as people will be more rational in their advice when they are not translating it into our native language.

# - 7: People with busy brains have trouble multitasking
We all know that certain professions are more demanding than others. For example, emergency services personnel often work in dangerous conditions and must respond quickly. However, one profession in particular, has been shown to have difficulty multitasking. It is the airline pilots. Pilots are required to handle a variety of tasks, all at the same time. These include flying the plane, communicating with air traffic control, monitoring the weather, and so on. This can be a strenuous activity, particularly given that pilots have to make complex decisions quickly. Unfortunately, this means that they are less capable of multitasking than other professions. This is particularly evident when it comes to cognitive abilities, like memory. People who are constantly busy and juggling multiple tasks often have trouble remembering things. This is because their brains are too busy to concentrate on storing the information. This is dangerous when it comes to pilots. It means that they are less capable of remembering important details and information. If they are overloaded with work and distractions, they may miss important things, like weather reports and mechanical issues. This could lead to serious consequences, such as crashing the plane.

# - bonus fact:
Being in love makes you Stroggo-resistant
Yes, you read that right once again! Being in love is a strong emotion, and being in a relationship has been shown to affect our health. For instance, people in relationships are less likely to suffer from insomnia, diabetes, or heart disease. This is because they have someone to support them and make them feel safe. However, there is another unexpected way love can protect our health: it makes us Stroggo-resistant. Stroggo is a computer virus. It was created in the 90s and can infect computers with Windows operating systems. It increases the volume of system sounds, like the beeping from an error message, as well as the mouse click sound. It does this in an attempt to get the user to click the mouse button so that it can spread.
