trauma
At its core, trauma can be thought of as the psychological wounds that persist, even when the physical ones are long gone.
Out Of The Dark
One day during probably one of the worst times I struggled with trauma, I had a daydream. I saw myself as a young child, maybe 7 years old. I was in a dark well. It looked like I had fallen so deep into the well that I couldn't see the light of day anymore. _Was it day or night?_ I wasn't sure. It was just total darkness. I sobbed and cried but nobody could hear me. I screamed for help and not a soul could hear. Nobody would come. My throat was tight, and my lips were dry and cracked. I was parched. I said and pulled my knees close into my chest. It just felt better to be crumpled up into a ball. It allowed me some body heat or at least the idea of it.

The Miracle of Hope
We all go through hard times in life. It might be as a child, getting bullied or picked on. Your parents might go through a major trauma to their marriage, addiction or infidelity or abuse. Divorce may suddenly and permanently alter your world. A parent, sibling or loved one may become terminally ill. Generally, I would say it’s rare that childhood trauma is actually caused by the child. It’s almost always external influence. This can easily cause a child to feel hopeless to control their environment and get to a place of physical or emotional safety.

Back to Basics: A Gleaning of Contemporary Native American Mental Health Issues. Top Story - July 2020.
Savage warmongers or animal-loving pacifists? Uncivilized beasts or trainable inferiors? Early settlers of North America perhaps debated these questions amongst themselves when encountering the indigenous peoples of The New World. Regardless of the discussions that took place, one thing is certain: the decimation of Native American (NA) populations is a black mark forever ingrained in United States history.

Abuse is Oftentimes Misdiagnosed
By Dr Kathy Lacina After 25 years of working with children and adults who have been sexually abused, I am still appalled at what children suffer at the hands of their parents. How can parents inflict such horrendous acts on their own children? The saddest thing I hear from these clients is the belief that they must have done something wrong to be treated that way. ALL of them blame themselves and consider themselves to be bad, terrible, or disgusting people which is further from the truth.

Illuminating Narcissism
If you’ve been in a relationship with a person who suffers from narcissist personality disorder then more likely than not you’ve experienced the discard stage of the relationship. If you’ve not quite hit that point, please know that this is part of the disorder. They discard because their mentality is always that the grass is always greener on the other side.

Internal Family Systems
Internal Family Systems. What the heck is she talking about?! I have been in therapy off and on for years for one reason or another: custody battle between my grandparents and my mother, incest, abuse, sexual dysfunction, trauma therapy, etc. In my most recent therapy trip, I’ve been dealing with trauma. This trauma has impacted my life in many ways - primarily my marriage - but I’ve also seen it rear its head in my employment, in school, in friendships… pretty much anywhere I am, my trauma follows me and rears its ugly head when least expected and certainly when least welcome.

Trauma and Drug Addiction
We often do not realize that trauma sets off things in our life that we simple do not anticipate. Rather that be feelings, emotions, events, endings, trauma is the one unexpected visitor that we never can anticipate. We look at our community now and a lot of the youth and adults are addicted to some type of drug. But where does this all start? Is it the constant bickering between parents that causes the child to search for an escape or the neglectful parenting that makes one run to another source for just .... anything? Could he be the young girl who was placed in a custody battle but ended up with the wrong parent? I mean I could go on, a lot of times we talk about the drugs in communities but we don’t associate the trauma.
