Unless you're an expert photographer with thousands of hours of experience and have several awards in your trophy room for the photos you've taken, your hands probably shake while taking pictures. Sadly, this applied to me when I visited my girlfriend in Italy. Seeing how it was my first trip to Europe, I was determined to capture every moment with my camera. The photos I took were less than ideal and some were just too blurry to even tell where I was.

Rachel BlanchardPublished 6 years ago in Photography'Refracted Visions' Book Review
Karen Strassler’s book, Refracted Visions: Popular Photography and National Modernity in Java, explores the relationship between photography and culture in Java, Indonesia. The title itself, Refracted Visions, suggests that the viewpoint created from photography is somehow altered and manipulated. This directly relates to the content of the book as Strassler argues that photography creates biased views on nationalism and inaccurate views on Indonesian history.

Even though natural light is the best source of light anyone can ever acquire, there are times when it's not always there for us. And a cloudy day doesn't count as good lighting, because the sun is tucked away behind the clouds. Anyways, when the sun is out of our hands, we then rely on our flash to give us the light that we need. But is there a better source of light in photography than the flash that's built into our smartphones or cameras?
