What Motivates You?
Exercising like running has always been my go to when things get tough or when I need a break from reality. Sometimes life can get so challenging that I just need to get away from the world and just be by myself. Writing does that for me but when it doesn't I go for a run. Not saying that I only run when I'm upset or need to get away but it does help. So when I'm running to cool down and work off some steam I like to listen to some heavy metal bands or songs that are angry and upbeat to keep me calm. Songs like Break by Three Days Grace. I also listen to Just Like You by Three Days Grace, Headstrong by Trapt and many more. Listening to this kind of music speaks to me when I am highly angry and upset.

Over-qualified yet Overlooked
I know I'm consistent and treat everyone equally, because I have faced discrimination, prejudice and bias repeatedly (more so after losing my hearing) and I don’t want anyone feeling this way after interacting with me. Yet, I am aware that I keep my personal life out of professional settings. I value my privacy, but I guess I can understand how others would interpret that as being guarded. My personal goal is to re-evaluate myself at least once a year (this is key to becoming a better/stronger person). Although I am due for another one, my last self-reflection showed five strengths and weaknesses: action-oriented, compassionate, workaholic, protective, and friendly. There is some symmetry; although, it is not the same.

Edge Control for the Soul
Black women are the backbone of families everywhere. Like any other racial group, they are also prone to needing a safe space to create positive mental wellness. However many Black women don't acknowledge or allow for appropriate wellness levels in relation to self-discovery, self-esteem and more.

How often do you always want to start to do something, then life happens and it takes you away from your goal or destination? You may want pause reading to answer this rhetorical question...but while you wonder about this and how you are going to approach this question, may I continue to further explain myself? Life happens, there is no question about it...but why is it takes away from returning to it to figure out your end result? So here goes with what life has given me and hopefully I am able to inspire you in some way to get back in the saddle and realize your goals are doable as well as obtainable.

Thir3 Times a Charm!
After about 12 years of heavy active addiction, and almost 3 years on the mend from that addiction, I really felt my life was coming back into focus. It felt like I was finally on a roll, and headed for good things in my life, after a life thus far filled with turmoil. Once again life would teach me to never put all my eggs into one basket, one more time life would show me that I'm really not in control here!

2020
It's like staring an unknown abyss right in the eyes, and never sending any light or color. Where time becomes still, and your life is a revolving loading screen waiting for a moment to press play. How did we get here? It seemed like the world was on the pathway to great exploration and then BOOM...nothing. Unemployment thriving for seven months, Covid positive in July, limitations on travel and negligence all tangled together to create this "experience". Religious leaders become more suspect and you now must turn to learning on your own instead of entrusting that their intentions are pure.

Working out
Exercise is bullshit. Let’s all stop and not workout. Let’s just be lazy pricks and so nothing..... Let’s be quitters. But in reality this isn’t how it works, we all want to look our best and for most of us this does require a level of exercise to burn more calories than we intake each day, as good old James Smith would have said it.

TOUGH LOVE IS THE BEST LOVE
When you are taking a journey in this life you are going to have a few pot holes in the road. The more you drive the more you will see those pot holes. After a few minutes of driving you notice that you can avoid those pot holes and have a smooth drive. This is how life is; full of pot holes that you can either hit or avoid.

Progressing in the Journey
I remember what it felt like in my lowest moments. I remember this deep despair that rose from the depths of my being. Looking back on it years later, I can say that a major proponent of my depression was my inability to truly love myself. This pit of loneliness, rejection, self-loathing, confusion, and hopelessness really had a way of latching on to me whenever I felt like I was reaching a turning point.
