It’s teacher appreciation week! One of the most important jobs is an educator. Research has shown that the investment in early education improves not only cognitive abilities, but also critical behavioral traits like sociability, motivation and self-esteem in children. For those reasons it is extra important to highlight those molding and educating children during their earliest development stages. We had the pleasure of speaking with Terressa Brown, founder of Ms T’s Helping Hands about her backstory and her successful company.

Always in the Mood for Luxury
Embracing luxury as a Black woman is top tier. By definition, luxury is something adding to pleasure or comfort but not absolutely necessary. Another definition is an indulgence in something that provides pleasure, satisfaction, or ease. Luxury is the “free or habitual indulgence in or enjoyment of comforts and pleasures in addition to those necessary for a reasonable standard of well-being." For International Black Women’s History Month we’ve decided to interview a woman making history by being a part of the very small percent of Black women in the luxury eyewear industry.

April is National Pecan Month
Every April we celebrate National Pecan Month by recognizing the nut that has so many great uses. Pecans are known to reduce your risk of heart disease and lower cholesterol. They also contain fiber, protein, and antioxidants . They have been named as a heart healthy food choice by the American Heart Association. Pecans are a tasty treat good for any time of the day. While they have many health qualities we also love them as an added ingredient in many sweet treats. Pecans have a mild, slightly sweet flavor and a buttery texture that makes them a great addition to so many desserts. One woman has taken the pecan and included it in her world famous pralines. Recently we sat down with the owner of Mama Dots Sweet Shop to talk about her pecan treats as well as how she has grown her business to where it is today.

Have A B.L.D
According to the U.S. Labor Department, while more than half of culinary graduates are women, fewer than 20 percent of working chefs are women. The figures are even more staggering when talking leadership. Women comprise just 7 percent of head chefs and restaurateurs across the country today. We love to see women taking charge by creating their own lanes in the food industry. We had the pleasure of interviewing a woman doing just that! Shantell Jones is the owner of Have A B.L.D, a private chef company based in Maryland. Our team actually had the pleasure of tasting her food last year and were blown away. Everything was so flavorful and she was highly professional. Today it’s an honor to speak with her and learn more about her background and brand.
