If you’ve got fine lines and wrinkles on your face, you’re not alone. While genetic factors play the biggest role in aging, there are other causes of facial lines and creases that have to do with things like stress and sleep patterns. In this article, we’ll talk about what makes wrinkles worse, so you can protect yourself from aging in the ways that matter most to you.

Unhealthy habits

It's not just your genes, but also your habits that have a direct effect on how quickly or slowly your wrinkles worsen. Smoking, excessive sun exposure, lack of sleep, drinking too much alcohol, and not eating properly are all factors that can make wrinkles worse. Luckily for you, there are simple steps you can take to prevent them from getting worse! Take care of yourself by avoiding these unhealthy behaviors. Drink plenty of water, avoid smoking, get enough rest and avoid overdoing it in the sun. Make sure to drink lots of fluids to keep your skin hydrated and help reduce inflammation. Not only does water do wonders for our skin, but hydration is crucial for optimal health in general! In addition, don't forget about exercise! By taking part in an activity like yoga or cycling, we give ourselves time away from electronics and the artificial light they emit (such as TV screens). These practices allow us to re-energize our bodies while reconnecting with nature.

Aging

The skin is made up with three layers. From the top down, these are the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis. The wrinkles you see on your face are caused by changes in collagen in your dermis layer. As we age, our skin becomes less elastic and collagen production slows down. We also lose fat deposits under our skin which lead to fine lines. And over time, this process speeds up as skin cells become more fragile. Fortunately there are ways to slow it down. Sunscreen is one such example as it can reduce inflammation and damage from sun exposure. Moisturizers that contain sunscreen can also help keep skin plump and moisturized so that wrinkles don’t get worse faster than they would without them. Eating fruit has many benefits, not just for your skin but also for other parts of your body. Fruits are a good source of fiber which helps with digestion and keeps the digestive system running smoothly.

Sun damage

It's important to protect your skin from sun damage, which can make wrinkles worse. Sun protection includes wearing sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat when you are outdoors for long periods of time. Regular exercise may also help because it reduces stress levels, decreases inflammation and improves circulation that can lead to improved elasticity in your skin.

Smoking

Inhaling any type of smoke will cause wrinkles to get worse, so if you're looking for ways to prevent wrinkles from getting worse, try quitting all types of smoking. If that's not an option, limit your intake to the least harmful forms (cigars instead of cigarettes, filtered cigarettes instead of unfiltered). Drink less alcohol, which dries out the skin and causes blood vessels in the face to constrict, reducing blood flow. Try eating a well-balanced diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids (salmon) and vitamin E (nuts), both antioxidants that help protect skin cells from damage by free radicals. Drink plenty of water each day to keep your skin hydrated.

Dehydration

It's important to note that there are a number of factors that can cause facial lines, wrinkles, and creases that are unrelated to aging. For example, dehydration is one factor. The lack of water in your body causes muscles to contract, which can lead to wrinkles or creases. That's why it's important to drink enough fluids throughout the day (8 glasses) so that you don't get dehydrated. Avoiding prolonged exposure to heat also helps keep the skin from drying out too much.

Nutritional deficiencies

A common cause of wrinkles is nutritional deficiencies. Deficiencies in Omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, or zinc can make your skin dry, thin, and fragile. To prevent wrinkles from getting worse, you should eat a healthy diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables as well as fish (a good source of omega-3s). Magnesium supplements also may be helpful if you are deficient in this mineral. Antioxidants help to repair cells that have been damaged by free radicals which may contribute to wrinkles and age spots. As such, eating foods high in antioxidants (such as blueberries) or taking antioxidant supplements is an excellent way to keep wrinkles from worsening.
