Let me tell you about my patient named Mrs. Laura who was recently delivered a baby around 2 days back. Her husband and her family members are so happy that she delivered a baby girl. They are in heightened emotion. After 4th day her husband and she came for the postnatal check visit. she looked little bit worried and she was yelling at her husband, I was seeing these things from my cabin. Then their called arrived they came into my cabin I greeted them and asked how was baby doing and how she was going.

" The postpartum blues may cast shadows, but within those shadows lies the strength and beauty of a mother's unwavering love."

Laura suddenly broken down and she started crying, her husband told that she was always yelling at him unnecessarily, cries a lot, she is not sleeping at the night properly, looks tired all the time.

I listened all these things by nodding my neck, then I told Laura don't worry you are not alone Laura this is called postpartum blues. They both looked clueless and stared my face and I cleared my throat and continued to talk to them.

well what your are all thinking about the Laura's behavior?

Is she gone crazy...,

NO!

She is actually showing the symptoms of postpartum blue or baby blues which is commonly encountered by 70% to 80% of the new mothers after delivering the baby. It usually starts at 2 to 4 days after giving birth to the baby. It will be go off its own without treatment on 10th day. Post partum blues or baby blues are caused mainly due the hormonal changes and other factors like stress they underwent during pregnancy and delivery time.

ok let me ask you the question, can she approach support team or group?

YES

They are many support groups for new mothers they can join with them and educate themselves and their families.

The other treatment options includes

1) Psychotherapy

2) Family support

"Family support is the compass that guides a new mother through the labyrinth of postpartum blues, pointing towards the light of love and understanding."

I asked Laura and to her husband that they should come back to me when she is experiencing the symptoms that doesn't subsides or goes on for a longer time or she is experiencing extreme mood swings or anger.

Early support from health care provider and from their families plays an vital role in postpartum blues.

After my conversation they both looked confidence and they joined the mother's support team in our hospital and went back home happily with their little baby girl.

happy journey
