love
All you need is Love, and Love is all you need.
Love
There are better ways to describe love than using the word love. It's embrace, empathy, passion, right? Still wrong. Love is inexplicable. It's not a feeling, its a being. Love breathes strong, clear breaths. They say when you know you know but I disagree. Don't be fooled, love is strong and clear but it is confusing, suffocating, and bitter at times. So there is no way to truly know if someone is right for you. It is a mix of all things beautifully and toxically consuming.

Blame it on Mercury Retrograde
Blame it on Mercury Retrograde! My flat tire, the miscommunication at work, anything that doesn’t go my way. Blame it on Mercury Retrograde. The planet appearing to move backwards always has weird effects. I blame it for all of it, just like everyone else. I blame it for the sluggishness to get out of bed, for the lack of motivation to do the bare minimum.

F*ck Ruin
Ever have something in your life fall apart? A relationship, a job, a situation. Have you ever felt devastated that it fell apart? Or have you been happy. I'd like to propose that ruin is a gift. Have you ever watched Eat Pray Love? If so, do you remember that scene where Elizabeth is emailing her lost lover and explaining that ruin is gift? I think sometimes we forget that concept in the midst of ruin. And that's completely understandable. Ruin is painful and it hurts for a very long time. You have to go through much healing to get to a place of peace again. And that's okay as well. Healing takes time as I've written about before. But this isn't about healing. It's about ruin being a gift. You may not see it at first and that's okay! Overtime however you'll come to these realizations.

I Thought We Were Just Friends
It was the 90's. I had no idea what love really was. I was insecure, unstable and unhappy. It was a Thursday night and I had been sleeping in a shelter in the park, at a time when I was going through some issues. I wasn't alone, I was with several friends, playing music, listening to them talk about guitars (often the main topic of conversation with these friends!).

What Falling in Love Feels Like
Your stomach fills with all of these butterflies. Some float around with a touch of blue to symbolize the sadness after thinking about all the bad things that could happen. Some flutter around with a touch of solid white to symbolize every single thought you have about them. And some are yellow to give meaning to the laughs, the smiles, and all of the joy they bring to you. Those butterflies don’t always mean you’re nervous, and they don’t always mean you’re scared. Sometimes they all run into each other when you don’t know what to think. Those butterflies are filled with the love you hold for that singular person.

When I Wanted To Fall In Love, I Learned To Fall In Love With Myself
I craved affection of some sort. I wanted to feel as if I was beautiful, but if I told myself, I’d never believe it. I desired someone’s shoulder for my tears to fall on when I needed it. I hoped there’d be a hand to hold and for someone to tell me “It’ll be okay” even if it won’t be. I wished someone's hand would be in mine as I drove to wherever I was headed.

We love a lifetime, or too short
Mr. Shen Congwen has a saying: "We love each other for a lifetime, or too short!" I was enlightened. I know many people who feel that life is too long, especially married life, is too painful, and wish that life could be over quickly so that they could suffer less. I can't wait to get a divorce so I don't have to see that person again. As a result, many divorced people never speak to each other again. Even when they met, they were like enemies.

Loving in the Best Way
The thing about love is that you don’t truly realize you have it till it starts to hurt. I don’t necessarily mean heartbreak, but when being in love affects the way you live your life. When you can’t stand being away from that person for too long because you feel like they’ve become a part of you, when you see the deep parts of their soul and all of the pain they carry and you can’t do anything about it, when the slightest change in their mood changes yours as well. It’s when every little thing that this person does makes you look at your own life in a different way. You look internally and want to change everything about yourself, not to please them, but to be a better person for them. You face all of the emotions and trauma that you have worked for years to shove down where no one, not even yourself, can find it because you don’t want it to affect the love that the two of you share. It is a battle with your heart and mind as a whole, you must make sure that you are intact enough to be able to take on another's feelings. It is the most selfless action that you could possibly decide to make, to choose someone else over yourself most of the time, to be there for them even if you’re not always there for yourself. Love is a choice. It is not a chore or a job, or something that you “just have to do”. You have to choose that person day in and day out, whether you feel up to it or not. You have to choose to work through the arguments and anger and differences because love is not just something that you give up on. You have to choose to better yourself for your partner and accept your faults with open arms. It is not easy, it will make you want to rip your hair out and scream sometimes, but if at the end of the day you can still look at that person and choose to love them and realize that it is the both of you against the problems instead of against each other, that is how you know. If you can look at them with stars in your eyes every single day and never wish that they were someone different, that is how you know. If even on the darkest of days you still wish for that person to be around you, that is how you know. If you never second guess on whether or not you are making the right decision of choosing them, that is how you know. There will never be second guessing or searching for better or seeking outside help. You and that person have to dedicate yourselves to each other for each other, no if ands or buts about it. If you are not willing to consider them in each decision that you make, love is not for you. If you are not willing to make sacrifices for that person, love is not for you. If you are not willing to see different aspects of a topic, love is not for you. Love is compromise, it is a team effort, it is a two way street. You are in it together or not at all, there is no in between. Love is communication, not just about your feelings and ideas, but about what you are doing and what you are thinking. Love is about loyalty, attention, and respect.
