dating
All about dating. First dates, three years into a relationship, Tinder, and more.
It's Okay to Be Alone
Over the course of this week, I have witnessed what a relationship should and should not be. Of course, I am familiar. I am versed on the subject. But, sometimes, you may need a reminder of the exact details of what you are looking for in a relationship.

Ghost Tales
Once upon a time, I met up with a tall, dark, and handsome (like, always) dude who, for the sake of privacy, I'll name Joe (which is also easier to type as we go along). Joe and I had been talking for about two weeks before meeting up. Yes, we met on Tinder. I thought something was wrong with me when I found myself downloading and deleting the app more often than I replace my Glade Plug-Ins, but I've come to find out that EVERYONE in NYC does the same thing. Whatever. Joe was a lot more breathtaking in person (they always are, girls). He was easy on the eyes and made you feel at home when he said your name.

Relationship Entanglements
So, I met this guy on Instagram. First of all, this is totally out of character for me. I usually delete all advances, but when I got to this one something said to engage him. He said hello. I responded in kind. A conversation began to flow and I found he was easy to talk to. He let me know right away that he is a widower. I am a widow so this is something we have in common. We began corresponding daily, covering a gamut of topics, learning new things about each other. You know, the typical things you want to know about someone: job, home, family, goals, aspirations. We found out we are both believers in God through Jesus Christ, so that was definitely a plus for me. That was something I needed to know early on in this conversation process because it was futile to continue the conversation if this was not a mutual part of our lives. We learned that we live in the same state, but different cities. Pretty soon we exchanged telephone numbers and began communicating by text. We had a couple of phone conversations, but for the most part texting was our conversation mode of choice. When I would awaken each day I would have a beautiful poetic word from him speaking about how beautiful I am or perhaps a scripture or just some word of wisdom. He really began to flatter me with these words and I got to the place where I was looking forward to them every morning.

Dating Is Scary But Modern Dating Is Worse
We're living in the future, where we can look at our phones, and get anything we want. We buy clothes online, socialize there as well, we now order cars to come get us from any location to our destinations if you're like me and you hate driving. The internet has indeed made the world very small. We can converse with a person from a different country, and develop a relationship without ever meeting in person. It's quite exhilarating. It is all-new, exciting, and a bit scary.

Relationship Green Flags
Ever heard of relationship green flags? Most of us have heard about the red flags to watch out for. These are the telltale signs that a relationship may be toxic or abusive. It's really important to know and look out for these warning signs, but it's also good to know what to look for that helps foster healthy relationships. When we invest so much time looking over our shoulder for bad signs, we may accidentally miss some of the truly awesome things that build rewarding and healthy relationships.

Interracial Dating
I don't discriminate.... but my dating life says otherwise. I have a type that I seem to attract and vice versa. The complexion I go for happens to be in the dark brown range; between Caribbean morenos and/or country morenos. There's no in between. I didn't think much of it growing up, I just found them so damn handsome! I remember in elementary school I had the biggest crush on this Bahamian boy. He had such beautiful pearly whites, dark skin, and gorgeous brown eyes. See, I told y'all my type has been the same since I was a kid.

Prince Charming, Is That You?
After our first day together, it seemed like the stars aligned to make our adventure be the best of all. The following day, I happen to be close to his work. Since our communication was never interrupted, he was aware of my whereabouts. It was great of HIM to invite me to check out one of his favorite coffee shops that was relatively close to where I was. As our message exchange progressed, we realized we were actually headed to the same neighborhood later, so we moved our meeting point. How perfect?

The Myth About a First Kiss
Eyes hungrily scanning the page, my imagination was conjuring up a beautiful scene; boy meets girl, they fall in love, they kiss, fireworks explode overhead and that’s how they know that they were meant to be together forever the end! 13-year-old me sighed wistfully and wished that my crush knew I existed (Unfortunately, he did know that I existed. He just didn’t like me back and rejected my advances when I asked him to go to the dance with me at a later date. Yes, it still stings a little.).

Relationships
“Relationships” is a term that covers a broad area. We do in effect, have a relationship with everyone we come into contact with, and that contact does not necessarily have to be personal contact. I suppose that we could even extend the term “relationships” to how we get along with our pets.

I'm Addicted to HIM
Our first date was the longest date ever! Of course, I realized that when reality shook in. It was extremely hard to leave. Everything was so great and I lost track of time. How could this be possible? It looks like I was a prey of his charm. Now I knew I was in trouble…

If You're Wondering Why You Suck at Dating, This Is Probably Why
The truth is: not everyone wants to flit from one person to the next for the rest of their lives. You're at that stage where you want to get serious, but every relationship you put effort into still seems to fizzle out after a certain period of time. You wonder if it's something you said, or something you did since every relationship ends up the same way, and you eventually conclude that it's probably a weird combination of both of those things. Coincidence? Possibly. Is there a lesson that can be learned here? Absolutely.
