Top Creators who are stuck up

Something I saw on the Discord app recently really bothered me. Maybe I’m overreacting, maybe not. You guys tell me.

You see, it was a conversation between two Top Creators from Vocal, who did not have the decency to take their private chat to messages, so one can only assume they wanted others to see.

In their not-so-private conversation, they talked about all the Under the Spell challenge entries, how these ‘wanna-be’ witches were aggravating, and how Halloween brought the fake witches out. One of them went so far as to claim that the only actual witches were the ones who practiced the old magic and that Wiccans, wizards, and the such needed to quit. Then she went on to say if she saw another entry about a Wiccan, she would want to hunt them down and do bodily harm to the person.

They got so upset with everyone trying their hardest to enter a challenge they wanted to hurt someone or something all over the stupid challenge.

This was not the first time I had seen these same two creators bad-mouthing others. I had seen both go after other creators before. But never to the extent that they went to this day. One is always way worse than the other one. It was disturbing to read from two grown women who are top creators and should be role models for the rest of the writing community.

What bothers me the most about their actions is that it was very stuck up and snotty of them to behave in the fashion they did. They showed an egotistical side of their personalities that I did not like by not taking the conversation to private message. They acted like they thought they were better than anyone else on this site just because everyone read their works and commented on their posts. For being so well loved, they were just plain MUGLY.

For you see, we should be helping each other grow, write better, and be better people. We shouldn’t be doing things to keep others down. And we should all be adult enough not to bad mouth others like they did. It was immature, disrespectful, and unprofessional.

This platform was created to make us all equals. Whether we are all Democrats, Republicans, straight, LGBTQIA+, black, white, Chinese, British, Baptist, Catholic, Atheists, Wiccan, or whatever, we are all WRITERS, first and foremost; that should be all that matters. We should support each other and respect each other and their beliefs.

Just because you are looked up to as a top creator on this site does not give you the right to bully anyone with your words or your actions. It does not allow you the privilege to pretend that no one is in the thread reading what you have written. It does not give you the right to chase decent writers off the site when you deem them unfit to your standards. It does not give you the freedom to decide what is acceptable and what is not. Being a top creator means you are looked up to in this community, but you won’t be for long if you keep going about how you are going.

So, be something other than a MUGLY creator like some stuck-up top creators. Be generous with your good fortune. Read your fellow creators' writing. Give them advice on how to be better. Tell them if you like the story or poem. You’ll be glad you did because everything you do comes back to you three by three.

I don’t tolerate bullies. I never have. Backstabbers are just another form of a bully. Deep down, they are all cowards, scared of losing something. Maybe the two top creator women are scared they will lose their full creator status. I do not know. I do not care. I have unfollowed both women because of this.

If anyone is curious about the screenshots I have provided them here. Thanks Sharon for this mind boggling question of morality! Congrats on being most talked about! ✨ https://vocal.media/writers/it-s-me-hi-i-m-the-problem

  • Congratulations on a deserving Top Story, Mother Combs! Tell us who they are and we can cast a spell upon them! lol What is a Top Creator anyway? Is that an official term?

    There’s a discord chat?

I forgot to say congratulations on Top Story…..if this was a newspaper you would have received an award

This is one of the reasons I avoided social media for so long. This is not an opinion on what happened, I was not there, did not read it but sadly now I know about this. I personally have a high regards for every person that was supposedly involved in the conversation, as a writer. I do not know anyone on vocal other than through comments and their work. The base problem with texting, or emailing and discord is everyone can read something on a variety of ways. A simple comment like ‘what’s up? Can have a reply of “ what’s that supposed to mean?” Or “ not much” Bottom line: I am not qualified to add who I believe is right or wrong. Bullying should not be accepted Comments can be misconstrued This did start a discussion which had people voicing their opinion, without knowing what truly occurred. I still admire the works of all involved I am glad I use social media only in small doses Thank you and I hope no one misinterprets this as anything other than a person who is saddened by this.

Imma say what we are thinking; screenshots- first rule of internet fight club. I have receipts myself but I want to see if you have any I missed! 🤔 I’m happy to admit when I’m wrong, but I was there for this convo and I’m not recounting it the same as you are.

This is why I don't have discord. Because i don't want other humans to ruin the magic of this platform for me. I love mother combs audacity. She literally does not care she will call you out and teach you a LESSON. LOL. Respect. <3 Thanks for sticking up for all the writers in the challenge. This just seems like childish nonsense.

To echo Tiffany. WOW! I don't know how to use Discord 🤔🤔🍏. So as Shaggy eloquently said "IT WASN"T ME". Peace and love everyone, it is so bad for the psyche to fight. I am still a little sad from the last one. WE ALL NEED TO GET ALONG! lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalal sing along everyone.

  • Thanks for the reminder

Thank you for your courage to speak up against bullying, that's admirable!

Some people simply have no real respect for others, like you say we are all writers and none deserve to be made to feel like nothing just because of a couple of idiots egos.

  • Test6 months ago

I think it's great that you're speaking out about this issue. It's important to hold people accountable for their actions, even if they're top creators. No one should be allowed to bully or harass others, especially not someone who is supposed to be a role model.

  • Thavien Yliaster6 months ago

Alright, I have no idea who You're talking about but- *scrolls down to comments* Nope, not my cup of tea. Not my discussion, not my place to comment, especially since I don't know the whole truth. I will type this, however, it doesn't matter how nice You may leave a comment on somebody's story. Even if You like it while providing advice there are people that are incapable of taking constructive criticism. I know that I've been indifferent to a bit of criticism, constructive and not, on my own stories. In needing to humble myself, I need to truly see what they meant by their comments. As meditating on them, and not igniting over them, is the key to understanding and indifference. Also, is that Your new word, Mother Combs? Mugly?

Sharon, I can’t tell if you’re purposely lying your ass off, or if you’re illiterate. First of all, Discord is a PLACE FOR DISCUSSION. I started a discussion. It was not a private message thread. It was a discussion several people joined in on. You could’ve shared your thoughts too, but that would require you to be a decent human being. Going and making this story about me full of lies, not even using my direct quotes, shows your immaturity and cruelty. Secondly, absolutely nobody anywhere in the discussion wished harm on anyone. This is what I said, copied and pasted: “OMG, the sheer amount of ignorance expressed in stories about “witches” every autumn is astounding. I wish people would remember that witchcraft is a very real part of life for some of us, and that the old fairytales are rooted in antisemitism. Yes, witchcraft stems from Jewish mysticism found in the Old Testament and Kabbalah. There’s also a long history of it in African cultures. It was around long before “Wicca.” But stories like Hansel and Gretel are especially antisemitic. Other stereotypes are based in racism, or were started against Quakers. Basically all the people who practiced spirituality independent from the Roman Catholics with their blonde haired blue eyed Christ originally painted to resemble a Pope’s son. I wanted to write an essay about the offensive stereotypes, but it ended up being too long to share on Vocal. I’m probably going to write an entire series someday, and Vocal obviously isn’t the platform for it anyways. I don’t usually speak up about this stuff, but the coven challenge has me feeling particularly ill. 🤢 Please remember witches are not make believe creatures like dragons.” I stand by it. If you have a problem with it, why not talk to me directly about it? What’s your personal background with witchcraft? What do you have to add to this discussion? Are you familiar with Santeria? Vodoun? Kabbalah? Orishas? Universal laws? Native American practices? Aleister Crowley? Icelandic witchcraft? Wicca and its twisted history? What do you have to contribute to the actual conversation, other than personal attacks stemming from your jealousy that someone (me) has gotten some Top Stories? And which other creator are you disgustingly bashing in this “story”? Mention their name. Because the only people who engaged in discussion with me were Kenny Penn, Suze Kay, and Amanda Starks. You already lied and said to Suze Kay, “I did not see your comments mixed in with the two posted.” I know you did see it. So are you bashing Amanda? Because she said nothing wrong. This is what she said: “I like playing on stereotypes and then flipping them on their head. But I agree with everyone here <@768621625670369290>!! I would love to read more about it from a personal perspective! I only have some second-hand knowledge as a friend of mine is wiccan but she's rarely opened up about it because of where we live ( and her job being at risk because we had very conservative bosses 😤 ). Thank goodness she's moved.” You owe Amanda an apology. Unless you’re talking about someone else, invisible to me, who I did not ever have a discussion with. And if that’s the case, please update your story with screenshots. I would love to see who wished bodily harm on someone, like you claim.

I definitely missed anything akin to violence. It seemed like genuine ranting to me. As a great granddaughter of a witch, i know that my grandmother had some similar hot takes on modern witches and the symbolism in the culture today; which is what the rants felt like to me.

Bullying only works when no one calls it out. Thank you for calling it out.

Francisco Quevedo and Luis Gongora carried on a bitter and hateful rivalry that ended in Gongora's loss of home, sickness, and death. They are both still considered staples of the Spanish Golden Age of literature. It's a blessing they didn't live in the age of social media and are not erased for posterity. Nonetheless, I would still read and follow both of them. This is about writing after all, not social etiquette. Very thought provoking, congrats on top story!

  • Marie Wilson6 months ago

Well said! I like this: "For you see, we should be helping each other grow, write better, and be better people." And try to take that attitude into everyday life. Thx for the reminder that this is the way to go!

  • Back to say congratulations! I however didn't find it on Discord because I have no idea how to use it 😅

  • Adrian Wordsmith6 months ago

I can empathize with your decision. It's not easy to witness or be part of situations where people resort to negative behavior out of fear or insecurity. It's a testament to your commitment to a positive and supportive community. Sometimes, self-care and maintaining a healthy online environment are essential for our well-being. 🌟

  • Poppy 6 months ago

Thank you for making a standing against this and congrats on top story!

  • J. Delaney-Howe6 months ago

Thats awful. I am not on discord. No place for bullies on Vocal.

  • Why is this the only convincing argument I’ve heard for joining the Vocal Discord 👀
