My Journey of Awakening
The last few years I’ve been on what I consider a journey of awakening. It’s not as mystical as it sounds, or at least not all of it. I tend to gravitate towards the more spiritual and new age way of thinking, yet I don’t believe that is the only path a person can take to go on a journey of awakening. The reason I say this is because I believe we are all human, having human experiences collectively and having them on the same round rock called Earth that spins in this vast universe. It’s a personal journey and I’ve seen a lot of my friends go on this journey through other means. Means like therapy, exercise, writing, art or other self help like activities. My definition of a journey of awakening is basically getting real with who you really are. The good, the bad and the ugly. Taking ownership of who and what you are, what you’ve experienced in life and taking healthy steps to heal any and all traumas every human being on this planet experience just by living.

The Way to My Heart is Through Music
For as long as I can remember music has played an important role in my life. I actually wrote my first song when I was five and I’ve been writing songs and poems ever since. I connect with music in a way that I can only describe as spiritual. It absolutely moves me, not just the lyrics, but the music itself. I am fascinated with the different songwriting processes and how everything comes together. The show SongLand is one of my favorite shows and my favorite movie is Music and Lyrics. Music is in my blood, without it, I don’t know if I would survive. In my darkest moment’s music was a lifeline, in my happiest moment's it allowed me to open myself up completely and let loose. It has also helped my anxiety immensely. When I’m anxious, and I need to calm down and find peace, I’m not one who finds comfort in ocean sounds or the compositions of Mozart. Instead, I gravitate towards, and lose myself in, songs that have beautiful and soothing music and have lyrics that take me someplace else and get me out of my head. It doesn’t matter what the genre is, as long as it comforts me and these songs do just that.

Floor Songs
I have a playlist I call Floor Songs. Anyone who knows me knows what happens when one of these songs comes on. They’ve seen me mid-conversation lose my grip on the reality I was experiencing and lie down where I stood. The world stops, for me at least, as I place myself on the ground as an anchor, and just listen to the music and remember.

Missing Late Night Adventures
I graduated from college in 2018, and I had no clue what I wanted to do for the next chapter of my life. There's no manual on life and even if there was, most people would probably say you get a good-paying job, make money, find someone to marry, have a family, and work for most of your life in the hopes that you can retire. To me, there's more to life and honestly, I think I just wanted to be lost for a while. Enjoy the time of smaller responsibilities, not worrying about finding someone, and spend time solidifying the most important relationships around me. For two years after I graduated, I spent quality time with friends as we stumble into adulthood, explored new environments, and went on road trips. Coming out of college, it felt like I finally answered my yearning for exploration. 2020 was the year I thought I would go on even more trips, while also stepping into larger aspects of adulthood. Then the pandemic hit.
