Songs About Zombies and the Undead
There's a Youtube playlist at the end of this commentary. Zombies! What is it about zombies that makes them so popular? Sure everyone likes a good scare and zombies are a staple of horror movies. But they are much more than that. In an article at Vox, Zachary Crockett argues that “the creature is more than an aesthetic horror – it is a form of political commentary. For 80 years, the undead have been used by filmmakers and writers as a metaphor for much deeper fears: racial sublimation, atomic destruction, communism, mass contagion, globalism – and, more than anything, each other.”
Songs About Propaganda
Back in 2006, a music writer for the Guardian started an intriguing feature. Every week he would post a topic on the Guardian's music blog and Guardian readers would suggest songs on that topic. The writer would listen to the suggestions and compile a playlist of ten songs with commentary. That feature is still running though no longer at the Guardian. It is now at an independent website called the Song Bar. The bar's landlord posts a topic every week and a volunteer "guru" considers the suggestions and compiles a playlist with commentary. I have been a volunteer guru 29 times now and this is one of the topics I covered. You'll find a Youtube playlist at the end.
An Out Of Time Playlist
Almost every song you hear on the radio , or you stream is in 4/4 time , Yes some are slow and some are fast but they are mostly 4/4 time. Classical Music does not have this constraint but Classical Music is hardly your perfect pop song despite actually hitting the charts via Waldo De Los Rios “Mozart 40” and various classical TV themes. Stars On 45 Had one which was played to a disco beat and the Portsmouth Sinfonia released a “Classical Muddley” (but they couldn’t really play , but were the orchestra on “Put A Straw Under Baby” on Brian Eno’s “Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy”.
Like No Other #2
A few years ago I started a list of songs that were , in my opinion , #LikeNoOther , on my Seven Days In blog. These are eight songs for that list , and there will be a lot more in future. This is the second batch from those songs. Some will be familiar but they are really different from all other music that you know of although they may have been copied since then.
Eleven Very Random Nuggets Of Advice To Share With An Introverted Melophile
My daughter is a melophile - someone who loves music. So when she turned eighteen and announced that she wanted to go to her first music festival - possibly alone, as her mother my feelings were very mixed. I was intrigued, envious, happy, excited and proud but at the same time, very anxious and scared.
Songs That Go Bump in the Night: A Halloween Playlist
It seems that somehow, when I wasn’t looking, Halloween turned into a month-long celebration. It now rivals Christmas as my daughter and son-in-law’s favorite holiday, and they were thrilled when a friend invited them to their upcoming wedding, which will be held Halloween night and at which the bride will wear a black wedding dress. And to think my mom thought my generation was odd.

The Song of the Salesman
Many years ago I was made redundant and to teach myself ASP.NET I created a website called “Song of the Salesman” , This meant I had something to show potential employers when looking for contracts. At hit’s height it brought me in about £400 a a month but Shazam and streaming effectively killed it off as an entity.

Tears of A Clown
This is a list of songs that might make me cry at times, this is probably just me by crying is a good release, and I hope you feel free to cry and get rid of unhappiness. It won’t be a huge playlist and there will be repetitions from other posts. The Smokey Robinson song is appropriate because my tears could definitely be described as the “Tears of A Clown”. I could see there my be more Motown to come in this one.
