Bladder Having A Mind Of Its Own
Teenage years are the most difficult, confusing time of our lives. I call these years "scrape your knees" years because you will fall more than you stand. This time is crucial in learning how to navigate becoming a young adult. We've all drove our parents to insanity, and we've all had made bone head decisions. At the age of 16, I've made the dumbest split-second decision; it was also the day I realized that my bladder had a mind of its own. Looking back on my teenage year's anxiety has always been present in my life. I've never written or read the word anxiety, so my day-to-day experience seemed normal if I had gotten the proper treatment, maybe I wouldn't have suffered from anxiety as an adult. I played things "safe" I always looked both ways before I crossed the street, I was never disrespectful in front of my parents, and I always thought about my consequences of every action that I take.

5 Marvel Women Who Don't Get Enough AttentionTop Story - March 2021
Before the pandemic hit, San Diego was the leading city of all things Comic-Con; fans near and far would flood Downtown San Diego to showcase their devotion to all thing's comics. From people dressing up as their superheroes to A-List celebrities starting their press runs on the next blockbuster Marvel film, it's a world I didn't understand and found somewhat intimidating. The closest thing I've seen to a comic were the ones in the newspaper.

The Number One Hollywood Trick We All See
No matter what movie you press play on, there is one thing that these movies have in common, which is a wet ground on a sunny day, during a high chase scene or a fight scene amongst your favorite superheroes' everyone notices but skips that part when being engulfed in a scene. One morning I decided to watch a movie instead of watching my local news station or watching Martin on BET for the one-millionth time. I can always rely on Netflix to set the mood while I write.

What I've Learned As A Part-Time Freelance Writer…So Far
While attending vocational school to become a Medical Administrative Assistant with a Medical Billing background, I thought I would stay in the medical field forever. I had my life mapped out as a twenty-eight-year-old woman. I knew what medical offices I wanted to work for and even planned on going back to school to continue my education. Life isn't predictable; we can prepare for it, but it also doesn't turn out how we expected. After seeing Robin Roberts sit behind the ESPN desk every night to give college basketball high lights in the mid-90s, I wanted to work for ESPN. Seeing Jamelle Hill's byline in ESPN Magazine, I wanted to write for ESPN; instead, I enjoyed writing CD reviews for my high school newspaper.

Bittersweet Victory
February was good to me. At Vocal, the powers that be approached me for a Black History Month feature and asked me for a story for the FYI community. During my strong start, I got blocked from a famous Vocal Facebook Group, so I created Vocal Creators Saloon; today, the group has grown to 148 members in two weeks. My heart is genuinely full on how many current/new members are willing to take a risk on a new group. With over twenty member requests a day and a flood of direct messages, I felt slightly overwhelmed. Soon after, I realized that the group was consuming my day-to-day responsibilities.

Unknown World
Ahh, San Diego has great weather, palm trees, tasty Mexican cuisine, and baby mammoths and mastodons. You read that right, I've lived in San Diego, CA, all of my life, and I've never heard of a baby mammoth discovered until 2009; while I was watching the news, the Colombian baby remains mammoth were found in Downtown San Diego. The 8-foot tusk, skull, and bones were found at a construction site. During that time, they were building the Thomas Jefferson School of Law; as the construction workers were digging, they saw skulls and bones. They reached out to the San Diego Natural History Museum immediately. I watched this news clip in awe because I didn't expect the remains of an extinct animal to exist still. The first mammoth was discovered in January 1987 at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park located in Borrego Springs.

Proper Way To Store Your Fruits & Vegetables
Have you ever opened your refrigerator and looked at all the fruits and vegetables that have gone bad? As you pull out the soggy spinach or mushy tomatoes, all you can think about is the money you just wasted. You find yourself taking more trips to the grocery store more than you should, or you find yourself trying to use and cook all of your veggies because they all look like they're on their last leg. If weight loss has been your new year's resolution storing food is crucial for freshness and taste. The frustration can be so overwhelming that you question if this weight loss is even worth the trouble. Saving money on processed food can last three lifetimes. After spending hours in Whole Foods Market, you rip off your mask and start to put your groceries away, storing your fruits and veggies in the drawer, and walk away. Like new cars, fruits and veggies tend to drop in value after you've purchased and stored them. Here are ways to store your fruits and vegetables correctly.

You Need A Virgo In Your Life
"Just like a Virgo" when I hear people say that I don't know if I should cringe with disgust or smile with pride. I guess it depends on who the messenger. I call being born in September the "sweet spot" where Summer is coming to an end and where fall begins. It has a feeling of warmth, leaves, and hot chocolate. If I told you that being a Virgo is the best sign on the astrological chart, would you believe me? Without the Virgo, you wouldn't have amazing people like Beyoncé, Michael Jackson, Kobe Bryant, Idris Elba, Nick Jonas, Keke Palmer, Zendaya Keanu Reeves, to name a few. These eclectic human beings have made a significant impact in the world of entertainment. I am lucky to be in a class full of hard-working people. So, it saddens me when I see threads on Twitter listing Virgo as the worst sign to date. I'm not here to highlight the negatives like people-pleasing and perfectionism. I'm here to tell you why you need one in your life.

Mystery Man In A Suit
After sitting at my computer for hours on zoom calls, my body's bones started to get stiff like cement. I slowly got up from the table to move around, but every step became harder. At that moment, I promised myself to take more breaks and stand up every twenty minutes. My name is Frida Kahlo Davis, named after the famous painter Frida Kahlo. I'm a contributor to the lifestyle blog "Finding Your Light," my schedule can get hectic during the holidays. Companies tend to reach out to me for listicle articles such as "The top 5 Affordable Gifts This Year" or "Eight Ways to Deal with Your In-Laws During The Holiday Season." With the pandemic in full force, companies that I once worked with decided to cut their staff, including my freelance writer position. Over the past several months, I've had to make some sacrifices; I've found myself using candles as my primary source of light, eating noodles, and reading more books after getting rid of cable and streaming services. My stress levels have been too high, and I'm losing lots of sleep.

Attack Of The FurballsTop Story - February 2021
Picture this: you are one of the wealthiest people in the world, and an army of rabbits attacks you. What if I told you that happened? What's scary about the internet is that it never sleeps. Information on the world wide web is endless. You can go from who won the presidential election to watching Mukbangs. When the Vocal Curation Team asked me if I would be interested in participating in this topic, I immediately said yes. One of my goals as a writer this year is to challenge myself more and not be complacent about different topics. Although I didn't know the TIL subreddit trend, I went to my trusted source Google to see what I can find. When I read that rabbits attacked Napoleon Bonaparte, I laughed. I couldn't believe what I was reading.

I Put My Thing Down, Flip It, And Reverse It
"I want to say one thing to the writers, to the upcoming writers, 'Do not give up.' We all go through writer's block. Sometimes you [..]have to walk away from a record and come back to it. But don't give up because I'm standing here. And this is big for hip-hop, too."-2019 Songwriters Hall of Fame
