My Dream Destination: the Philippines
Forever and ever, there was another place in Asia that I had the desire to visit: the Philippines. Throughout my life, I lived in neighbourhoods where Filipino immigrants resided and worked as nurses, nannies, personal care attendants, cashiers, food service workers and operated their own Filipino supermarkets. I also went to school and made friends with several Filipino children during my youth that I still keep in touch with in my adulthood. By hearing them speak Tagalog, eating their national foods, visiting a bunch of Filipino stores in my area, watching Filipino TV shows like Wowowee as a child, listening to Filipino music, and learning about their culture, I gradually developed an interest to tour the Philippines in the future. It became a dream that I refused to relinquish.

My Dream Destination: Kyrgyzstan
I have been dreaming of taking a trip to Kyrgyzstan since the winter of 2019, after watching a documentary about Bride Kidnapping on YouTube, one winter evening at home. I have also had some encounters with Kyrgyz students throughout the youth, so I am keen on learning more about the culture, the food, the language, the people and what Kyrgyzstan has to offer for tourists.

Music Around the World: Mongolia
Sain uu, naizuud (Hello, my friends)! After a spontaneous interaction with a Mongolian boy at college, I started to be interested in the Mongolian language and culture. Although I was slightly interested in Mongolian music and the language in 2011, I did not devote as much time into learning about the language and the music. Instead, I devoted the majority of my time into perfecting my Russian language skills.

My Dream Destination: The Republic of Tatarstan, RussiaTop Story - December 2020
For the last seven years of my life, I had one dream that I refused to let go of: to visit Russia. Although my brother and I plan to go when the pandemic has calmed down, I may not be able to see all of the republics during my first visit to Russia. Due to its level of hospitality, cultural enrichment, spirituality and uniqueness, there are several republics that I want to visit more than others, like Tatarstan.

My Dream Destination: Japan
Konnichiwa my friends! By the time I was a preteen, I had one goal which was to travel to different places around the globe. Since I have a penchant for multiculturalism and geography, there are a whack of places that are on my "travel bucket list". Japan is one of the places that I have on my lengthy travel bucket list, because of its attractive natural sites, the delicious food, the variety of things to explore and do, as well as my overall passion for Japanese culture, language and cuisine.

Boogie Woogie to the Sound of Music
Growing up, I admired music by multiple Black artists and music groups from various genres and eras such as the 1970's and 1980's. At first, my brother was the one who got me interested in genres like hip-hop and rap, because he would constantly play songs by T-Pain, Kanye West, and Rihanna in the car and at home in his bedroom. He and I would dance and sing along to some of their tunes, which created very special childhood memories. Over time, I have also branched out into other music genres, groups and artists like Billie Holiday, Percy Sledge, Sister Sledge, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye and Technotronic. I would download these songs and listen to them repetitively on YouTube or Apple Music during any time of the day or night. Watching several television sitcoms such as The Cosby Show (one of my favourites!), The Jeffersons, Good Times, That's So Raven, Smart Guy and Sister, Sister during my elementary school years definitely gave me some extra inspiration to explore music made by Black artists.

A Beginners Guide to Hanukkah at Home
Hey my friends! It's that time of year in which people across the globe are preparing for, budgeting for, shopping for and thinking about the joys and sorrows of the holidays! Holidays such as Diwali (which has passed), Hanukkah, Christmas and Thanksgiving (in the USA) are the most common celebrations during the winter months. Prevalent holiday-related questions such as "Who is invited to my party?", "What food am I going to make?", "Where are we going to celebrate and what gifts are we going to give?" are what people are most likely asking themselves and others during this time of year.

Gratitude: One of the Important Lessons from 2020
At the beginning of the pandemic, I did not feel thankful for anything. Facing the surreal reality of lockdown, social distancing, death, grief, trauma and anger did not fit into the gratitude category for me. I was nothing but unhappy, so that prevented my ability to be thankful for what I have in my life. I just didn't reveal the negative emotions I was facing, because I am tough as a cookie.
