The Secret of One Hundred
The outside world was unknown to her, but she could see a glimpse of it through the window in his room. The old man lay there, resting in his metal bed. His thin body was covered with a thread-worn quilt. He would gasp and drool every so often as he took one ragged breath after another. This was the time of day that scared her the most. As he slept in the dim shadows of the fading sunlight, she waited. In the stillness, she feared he would slip away from his ailments. Leaving her alone in this harsh world. The notion was terrifying. He’d be better off if he were to drift off, she knew that. But she couldn’t imagine not having his counsel, not having his advice. He was known as 99, and he had been the only father figure 25 had ever known.

View from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence
Starry night Van Gogh I am not crazy, you twig Repeat what you said ~ The Starry Night (Dutch: De sterrennacht) is an oil-on-canvas painting by the Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh. Painted in June 1889, it depicts the view from the east-facing window of his asylum room at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, just before sunrise, with the addition of an imaginary village. It has been in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City since 1941, acquired through the Lillie P. Bliss Bequest. Widely regarded as Van Gogh's magnum opus, The Starry Night is one of the most recognizable paintings in Western art.

The note
“No, just press the home button,” Becky said as she pushed the bottom of the screen once more. Kenny nodded as he listened to her instructions. He had no intention to use this technology stuff. It was the millionth time they’d had this lesson and it wasn’t eight o’clock in the morning. Kenny tried to pay attention, but he knew he would try things his way as soon as she left for work. He didn’t need the internet. The kind of job he was looking for wouldn’t be ‘online’. The tablet was too much trouble to operate.

Get-Away Challenged
We drove up the snowy, winding road towards the cozy A-frame cabin. This trip was a last-minute decision, and we were both eager to settle in and relax for a few days. Jesse had stopped the car twice, once to fill up with fuel and the second time for snacks. I was ready to get out of the car. I had slept the whole way and needed to stretch my legs. My mind was as tired as my body. Mental exhaustion is as dangerous as physical exertion. I deserved some downtime. Jesse did too. I wanted a glass of chardonnay, a view of the mountains, and a good soak in the advertised hot tub.
