My Hawaiian Heart
Only the best parts

You’ll always own
A little bit of me
Hawaii
In my heart,
Only the best parts
To those that I care about
I can’t imagine
Truly. I can’t imagine.
The Soul crushing
Devastation
The loss.
A world without color
Only black and white
everything into nothing
lush green landscape
Eaten by a cloud of smoke
And flame
in an instant
We are all reminded
That the only thing that matters
is a name
On a list
Someone, somewhere is searching
For you
Amid the Silence and darkness
You are found
Safe
Alive
the tears shed could extinguish the flames
If only I could wish them there
You’re so far away
And it breaks my heart
In a haze
Everything changed
All is not lost
The fire found you
in those embers
You’ll start again
Like the phoenix
You are born of the ashes
take my hand
and you will rise
there are rainbows
ahead
I can see the light
I wish to hear ukuleles
Played on sandy beaches
Until then
However long it takes
whatever you need
you’ll always have a bit of me
only the best parts –
my Hawaiian heart.

This poem is dedicated to the people of Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii who are facing devastating loss from wildfires. This poem is part of a collective effort of Vocal writers including C.H. Richard, Mike Singleton - Mikeydred, Cendrine Marrouat and Rachel Demming to raise funds for those who have lost so much in the tropical state. If you'd like to join in, drop a link to your story in the comments.
To my Hawaiian friends that have suffered, and those on the 9th Island that are heartbroken, there are rainbows ahead.
Here's Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version of 'Somewhere over the Rainbow' If you can't donate financially, listen to his melody that captures the essence of the Hawaiian spirit.
Hula dancing encouraged.
If you would like to donate to help these folks, here are some organizations that can use support. No amount of money is too small. Every little bit helps.
C.H. Richard had the vision to do a collective effort to raise funds for the beautiful people of Hawaii. Other creators have graciously offered to join in. Here are their contributions, beginning with C.H. Richard's beautiful reflective poem of what Hawaii means to her.
Community is everything.

Beautiful and painful poem Your Heart is felt in there! I am a huge fun of the hula dance since this year and their voices are so healing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67__Rr4x8Dw its a great way of support for Hawaii ! I have been watching lots of documentaries about their culture and hula dance festivals ! maybe I will write about it in here I hope they can recover with the support and help of another! Beautiful aim!
This gets to the heart of it. It's a very special place, I hope I get to go there again sometime in my life.
This fires are horrendous. A beautiful and touching poem! 😔 I just listened to the cover song. I think I’ve heard it in a few movies - it’s terrific. I’ve noticed I don’t seem to be subscribed to you, not sure if an error or oversight. 😊
Beautiful & Heartfelt
Wow. Beautiful.
Beautiful Dana. You took me to Hawaii with this one !!
A heartbreaking situation indeed. Beautiful poem. 🙏
By the way, I updated my story about my recent trip to Maui with links to organizations that help victims. If you want to add it to the list, it's here: https://vocal.media/wander/my-favorite-spots-in-maui-hawaii
This is a phenomenal poem! I'll share it widely!
Absolutely beautiful poem and thanks for raising awareness for the cause. I really admire you for taking the time to do this
Beautiful work Dana! What an uplifting piece! Currently praying for those affected! God please help the Hawaiian people!🙏🏾
I'll keep every one of them in my prayers! This is so heartbreaking! I loved your poem!
This was beautiful what happened in Maui is so tragic. It seems like we can’t go a month without something devastating happening these last couple of years
Dear Dana - With all of this unrest it's simply Human Nature that Kindness Never Goes out of Fashion - Our Ms. Judey keeps helping us out of situations; that's being 'Kind' within our VM community. She's just helped me with someone who copied my 'Popsicle' in 'Humor' verbatim (that's just unnerving to me) as well as stories by Hope-Stephanie-and Oneg and others. Yes, Dana, "Community is everything" and there for one another - If I could ever figure out how to take earnings from Stripe I would be proud to donate it. So so so beautiful my friend ❤️ Love it! "the Phoenix rising from the ashes!!" Awesome and beautiful song 🎵 🌺🌺🌺🎵🌺🌺🌺
This is very thoughtful of you and the others who are taking part in this effort. Hats off to all of you💖. It's times like these that remind me of what it's like to be human. We do care about each other. God bless and of course I will donate.
They need to be remembered now. Thank you, Ms. Stewart!
Aloha, Dana! Words can't express how beautiful your poem, My Hawaiian Heart is. Right now, I have a lump in my throat.
Oh my eyes and heart. This is beautiful Dana. I love that you're doing something so kind and also that you produced something so wonderful. I could feel the emotion from it. Well done on a fitting tribute.
