You may be to broke to pay attention
Identifying the issue I once heard a prosperity teacher jokingly say that some people are too broke to pay attention. He was emphasizing in a lighthearted manner how much easier it is to focus when you have enough money to supply your needs. The congregation laughed but over the decades I began to realize there just might be some truth to this statement and it could explain a few things. When life flows smoothly you go to work, pay bills, set money aside for emergencies, and have a routine. When that flow is interrupted, however, it has the potential to bring chaos.

Amazing Grace: the history behind the popular song
On Wednesday, January 20, 2021 Country singer Garth Brooks sang Amazing Grace during the Inauguration of Joe Biden. For many, this was not unexpected for the 46th President of the United States. Amazing Grace is a popular song that is heard often at funerals, in real-time as well as reel-time. It seems to be the song of choice in times of crisis such as in the aftermath of the terrorist attack during 911. There is also a rich history behind the origin of this hymn/folk song. The words to "Amazing Grace" were penned in 1772 by English poet and Anglican clergyman John Newton and was officially published in 1779. Newton wrote Amazing Grace from his own personal experience.

Animal Prints Need To Be Dead and Buried
One fashion that I have never been fond of is Animal prints. I don't know how they continue to make their way back into pop culture but it's time they were laid to rest. When I look at the woman in the cover photo I cannot imagine how anyone ever believed this was a fashionable style. Animal prints are patterns of the skin and fur of an animal such as a tiger, leopard, cheetah, snow leopard, zebra jaguar, clouded leopard, margay, ocelot, and spotted hyena. This style first became popular in the 1960s but continues to creep back into pop culture.

'The Young and the Restless' viewers don't want a Villy reunion
Last year at this time on The Young and the Restless, viewers were ready to say goodbye and good riddance to Billy Abbott. Jill's son was acting out of character even more so than usual and spoilers insisted that Jason Thompson was about to be fired. Billy abruptly walked away from his job at Jabot and did nothing for a while. Both Victor and Victoria wanted to know how he planned to care for his family and eventually he said he had an out of town consulting job. Billy began hanging out with Amanda and grew more distant from his wife.

Joe Biden’s sunglasses have a 60 year back story
President Joe Biden is known for his signature sunglasses. It’s rare to see him without them on and this is a tradition that goes back for decades. There have however been some who criticized the new president and one is the man he preceds in the highest office in the land. As is his nature, former President Donald Trump has made several disparaging remarks about his successor, including snide remarks about his glasses. Trump dubbed his successor “Sleepy Joe. and also once said that Joe Biden wore sunglasses to hide botched plastic surgery. Just like many other hateful lies the 45th president has stated in recent years, this is an untruth. The new President’s Rayban Aviator’s have a 60 year history.

'General Hospital' fans desire more of Stephen A Smith
Sportscaster Stephen A Smith has randomly appeared on General Hospital since 2007 when he portrayed a reporter who was talking to Sonny's father Mike during the Metro Court hostage crisis. On March 31, 2016 he was cast as "Brick" and returned on April 1 of that year. Both appearances were related to Sonny asking him to put a bug in the office of Paul Hornsby to find out the connection with Carlos Rivera. The storyline implies that Sonny and Brick go way back and also that he has a crush on Carly. In initial episodes, he would ask about Mrs. Corinthos and whenever he saw her he would kiss her hand.

Mommy you should have known better
Candy lived with her grandparents but her 2 brothers resided with their mom, stepdad and stepsister. Nine year old Candy dreaded spending the night with her mom because of the sleeping arrangements. All 3 of her siblings slept in the same room and her 6 and 7 year old brothers Robby and Willy had twin beds side by side. Seven year old Dana was in a bed that was against the far end of the wall. It was higher up in the air than the boys beds and and was covered in plastic. Candy never could figure out what the bed sat on to make it above her head level.

'General Hospital' is finally setting things up for the reveal of Nelle as Nina's daughter
The saga of Nina's daughter has been a long and winding road on ABC's General Hospital. At one point everything seemed to be indicating that Willow was the child that Madeline put up for adoption, Viewers began to suspect that Nelle might be that daughter and it was confirmed after she died. Avery found the chain with the other half of the locket that Nina wears. It was on the ground near where Nelle fell to her death. As close as Ava and Nina have become, it seems she has never seen Ms. Reeves wearing this jewelry. If she had she would have recognized it right away.

I’m a proud introvert and we all have the right to be different
I was always different when I was growing up and people never let me forget it. I was shy and everyone was always telling me to loosen up and be more talkative. I was told constantly that my complexion was so light hat I looked white. No one else in my community was “ high yellow” like me and I stood out like a sore thumb. One woman made the comment that if you are going to be black then be black as if anyone chooses the complexion they are born with. I also weighed 97 pounds in high school and was called all kinds of names. I would be stared at and pointed at by my fellow black students as though no other African American teen had ever been thin.

You’re A Mean One Mr. Trump
For 4 years I have been writing articles on Vocal about Donald Trump. After what happened in the Capital on January 6, I am weary and cannot muster any more words. I’m all cried out and my letter to the outgoing president will be the lyrics to the song”You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch". I laughed at these words growing up and thought them to be humorous. Now, however, I must sadly admit that they describe the man who has been at the helm of this nation since 2016. When I found images where others were saying the same thing, I realized I was on to something.

'General Hospital' fans ponder of Carly will end up wit Jason or Jax
General Hospital viewers are divided regarding what will happen in the aftermath of Sonny Corinthos being presumed dead. Right now his grieving widow is doing all she can to hold her family together. Viewers noticed that Carly did not sense that her spouse is still alive and declare she would find or wait on him. She has accepted that Sonny is presumed dead which indicates she will seek closure. Everyone knows she is impulsive and will act without thinking about the consequences. She will probably find this closure in the arms of a man, but which man?
